Hi! I think using multimedia wisely is the key to engage learners. Blend text, images, audio, and video in balance to create interesting courses.

Hi there! Gamification is your answer! I once whipped up a cybersecurity course where the learner had to save a fictional company from a menacing cyber-attack. The client loved it!

Hello,

Incorporate interactivity and feedback to enhance the learning experience. You can use various interactive elements, such as quizzes, games, polls, surveys, drag and drop, etc. to test the learners’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes. You can also provide feedback and guidance to the learners throughout the story, such as hints, tips, explanations, examples, etc. to reinforce the learning points and correct the misconceptions.

All learning can be boring or interesting, remember the teachers you had in your personal education career. The biggest challenge with eLearning are due to the lack of social interactions with peers and coaches. You can read about all the tips and tricks written everywhere (and please ignore those who still talk about learning styles). First priority from the eLearning course developers is to give as much control to the learner: that means avoiding presentation-like or passive video teaching but inclusion of as much meaningful interactivity as possible. Depending on the topic that can mean a pretest, allowing to skip over part of the content slides, self-assessments (my students loved them, even though they didn’t like exams), allowing to choose the learning sequence, eventually a glossary accessible from all slides/frames….

Using storytelling and scenario-based training is often the best way to go. You don’t want a knowledge dump. Instead, tell a story of how another employee may have handled the skills expected of employees. If it is well written, employees will not only learn what they need to do but might also be entertained, making the training stick.
