I’ve followed all the steps in the online adobe manual here:
https://helpx.adobe.com/captivate/classic/create-branching-forced-navigation.html
However, I still have no idea how to create branching in Adobe Captivate. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you!

I know this is called ‘simplified branching’ but I have seen lot of questions about it. Once you are not following exactly the described steps including the labeling, it is going awry.
If you told me exactly with a practical example how to lay out branching I could create a tutorial without a canned solution as you tried out. Some examples:
- Based on a ‘pretest’ score, allow to skip some content slides.
- Setting up a quiz with ‘Branch aware’ activated. You’ll find an example in this community which I created for a localisation project.
What is Branch Aware? – eLearning (adobe.com) - Based on a profile choice, navigate the learner to specific content slides.
Some tips:
- In preparation set up a a flowchart: where to navigate based on choices.
- If a choice needs to be made, it is recommended to store the choice in a user variable which you can use everywere.
- Forget about using the default playbar because it will override the navigation which you’ll need to set up as custom navigation.
