I seek to develop a custom dropdown interaction in Adobe Captivate that displays corresponding item details upon selection. How can I accomplish this?
Hi, you can achieve this interactivity in three simple steps.
- Add the dropdown interactive component to the slide. Change the number of options and their names per your requirement using the visual properties panel.
- To display the corresponding details upon selection, add the text block below the dropdown and select the “Hide during publish” icon just beside the Visual Properties icon.
- Select the drop-down options and go to interactions. Select the “Selection of” tab and choose the correct option. When you select the option, the conditions and actions window will appear. Select “Show” listed under actions. You do not need to mention any condition here. Select the required text target listed in “Content Sections”. Preview your course to check the functionality.
This is indeed very simple in Captivate Classic which had a dropdown interaction available which was full customisable,, in combination with the associated variable and shared/advanced actions. It may be possible in the new Captivate, but am a bit doubtful. Here is a link to one of my blog posts about the dropdown interaction in Captivate Classic, it may give you an idea for a possible workflow:

The loss of the possibility to use a hyperlink as event trigger adds to the complexity. I often created dropdown lists where I used hyperlinks as event trigger.
