Hello,

When trying to add an audio asset – either using the left panel or the ‘add audio’ from the right, the assets preview will not show all the audio assets, some will show also the time length and some will not. You can preview play only the assets that show the time bot not those without. Once trying to play one that without the time, none will show the time or play anymore, until you exit and re-launched the program.

It seems there is some issue in loading the assets from Adobe to the preview.

This is very frustrating. If there is any solution, or work around I would be happy to know. Thanks!

Hi ,

Thank you your response.

Thank you for sharing the additional details and for trying the suggested steps. I appreciate your patience as we work through this together. BasedBased on your description, it seems the issue is specifically related to how audio assets are being previewed within the Captivate interface.
Since the assets play correctly once added to the slide, this does point to a preview functionality issue rather than the files themselves. Please try the below steps and suggestions:

1. If your system is set to a language other than English, it may cause sorting or preview issues in the asset panel.     Try switching to English (if applicable) to see if it resolves the issue.
2. All audios after the “Heavenly choir” is not working on preview or any specific audio asset you want to mention       which is not working.
3.Please try to ‘publish’ the project and check if the audio is working . Further you can also check while hosting it on LMS as well.
Please try to add the audio files directly to the slide and check if they function correctly in the published course.
4. Preview audio is not working across all browsers like Chrome,Edge etc.
5.Create a blank new project in Captivate and try previewing audio assets to see if the issue persists. This will help rule out project-specific problems.

We hope this information addresses your query. We also encourage you to submit your valuable feedback and suggestions directly in Captivate via Help->Provide Feedback.

Dear Vivek,

Thanks for your kind support. Unfortunately none is solving the problem and I believ this is a bug in the software. Referring to the points you have mentioned:

  1. ‘The issue is specifically related to how audio assets are being previewed within the Captivate interface.’ – absolutely. This is exactly the problem.
  2. The problem is preview within the Captivate system PRIOR to inserting the sounds. After inserting the sounds it works well and no problem.
  3. My system is in English, so this is ruled out. There is no problem of sorting. It appears alphabetically, besides few I have tried before which appear first.
  4. The problem that if I am trying to test a sound BEFORE inserting it to the slide or object, you can just play a few and then it does not play anymore. In my opinion it has something to do with either downloading it or the buffer that can accommodate them on the system.
  5. I have tried this on 3 different systems, on both windows 10 and 11. All exhibit the exact same problem.

Thank you,

Moti

Hello, and thank you for your assistance.

Firstly – I have tried all 3 steps you have suggested. This did not solve the problem.

Secondly – The details you have requested:

  1. Captivate 12.4 – the latest update.
  2. Windows 10 and Windows 11 (I have tried this on two machines).
  3. No error message.
  4. It is not consistent with all the audio assets (see below).

The phenomena:

  1. When trying to add an audio asset from the lest panel – you can only ‘preview’ hear some of the audio assets. If they are organized from A to Z, I could preview until “Heavenly choir..”. Sometimes they are organized from Z to A in which case other sounds can be heard while others cannot.
  2. When trying to add an audio asset from the right button and opening the bigger audio asset panel you can even preview less sounds.
  3. If you enter a sound asset to a slide, even if you could not preview it, it will be heard when playing the slide. So, it is a preview issue.

Hoping this will help you investigate further.

Regards,
Moti

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

In Adobe Captivate, the issue can be caused due to many reasons specifically related to the way it loads and previews audio assets.Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and I understand how frustrating this must be. Let’s work together to resolve this issue.

Please share a few details to help us investigate further:
-Your Adobe Captivate version (e.g., 11.8 or 12.4). Operating system you are working on.
– Whether the issue happens with specific audio files or all files.
– Any error messages you see.

Here are some steps you can try:
Check File Format: Ensure all audio files are in a supported format like MP3 or WAV. Unsupported or corrupted files may cause preview issues.
1. Clear Cache and Temporary Files:
Close Captivate. Navigate to your system’s temp directory (%temp% on Windows or /tmp on macOS) and delete all temporary files.
2. Reset Preferences:
Close Captivate.Navigate to the preferences folder:
Windows: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate\utils ; double click on ” CleanPreferencesWin.bat”  to clear     the preferences. Restart Captivate and check on new project.

3.Update Captivate: Go to Help > Check for Updates in Captivate to ensure you’re on the latest version. Updates       often fix bugs like this.
4.Test with Different Assets: Use a small, simple audio file to see if the issue persists.

We hope this information addresses your query. We also encourage you to submit your valuable feedback and suggestions directly in Captivate via Help->Provide Feedback.
You may also contact the technical support team directly via phone (+1-800-833-6687) or chat (https://www.adobe.com/getsupport) for Immediate assistance.
