Thank you for this tutorial! I’ve always appreciated how Adobe demonstrates a culture of product proselytization in sharing how your products are intended to help with very exact and technical tutorials!
I’m using version 13.1.1.200 in 2026 APR.
Couple things requiring new practices, or I’m having to learn new practices since this is my first use of **New** Captivate and was very comfortable with 2019 Captivate last I used it:
- Import from Classic: I imported a ‘Training’ software simulation of about 92 slides last edited in 2022 MAR; imported from *.cptx format. I see this import feature is still tagged as beta although it was hyped in the marketing announcement with the release; so I am forewarned to expect less than stellar performance.
- Why are the Buttons, Branding Blocks, and Widgets unavailable in software simulations: unavailable both in the imported classic file and in a new software simulation recording?
- I have many Smart Shapes on almost all slides from the 2022 import with standardized colors and fonts for each state; however, I created a new theme and the software seems unable to apply UI Components settings to theses interactive shapes. How might I easily update all similar objects with a standard color and font for each state of the object?
- How can I change the font color of an imported SmartShape? I select the shape and I can adjust the Shape’s fill property from the properties inspector; however, when I toggle to the Text properties, the font color always conforms to the Theme Preset color in the font palette regardless of my font color selection; the inspector will show me the color I selected, but the font on the slide remains the preset theme color from the font palette. So, I learned that I can control it universally from the font palette in the Theme, but what if I want a custom font color for whatever reason for that one shape?
Thank you for your attention.

Hi arichardson,
Thank you for contacting Adobe!
1st Query:
For comments box I believe your are referring to Instructions Box. You can change the color, border of the box and also change the font and text color of the text in the instructions box. Select the Instructions box > Go to Visual Properties > Select Shape & Text tab to make necessary changes. Refer to this document to get more details about software simulation in All new Adobe Captivate: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/captivate/help/record-software-simulations-adobe-captivate.html
2nd Query:
To enter individual text on the simulation slide > select the simulation slide > Under Visual Properties panel > Check “Input Field” > Enter the text and you can change the position of the input field anywhere on the slide. But, you cannot copy and paste the input field from 1 slide to another. You need to insert input filed on each simulation slide.
3rd Query:
You can copy and paste the components like button, media blocks, image blocks from one slide to another. You can import themes and use them in a new project. Please refer to this article for more details: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/captivate/help/themes-captivate.html

Hello,
I’m a long-time user of Adobe Captivate, but I’m new to the latest/newest version of it. I just noticed that it seems you can no longer modify the comment boxes to take on the “callout” shapes. Is this true or am I missing something? I also noticed that when starting a project from a Blank content slide, I am no longer able to insert an individual text object without it being associated with a paragraph group; and after inserting the group, I am no longer able to reposition the individual text object nor copy the object to another slide. Also, what happened to the option to Duplicate an object or Merge with Background option? I used these features all the time and they were really great when you needed to build things from scratch (that is, without the use of built-in Captivate templates). PLEASE let me know if I’m doing something wrong – thank you!!
