When I participate in events like the 2018 Adobe eLearning Conference, we call them speaking engagements, and that’s certainly part of it. I like to think about this as really an instructor-led classroom session. My YouTube tutorials are often five to ten minutes of instruction, but what I do at the Adobe Live Events is a full hour of demonstration (I don’t use PowerPoint). What you will see from me is one hour of me demonstrating how to do a […]
In this Adobe Captivate video tutorial, I demonstrate how you can work with background images in your fluid box responsive design eLearning projects and ensure they line up the way you want them to.
In this Adobe Captivate video tutorial, I demonstrate how you can sync Typekit fonts that are required for custom Captivate themes, like the ones found on my website or purchased elsewhere. https://www.paulwilsonlearning.com/cpthemes/
In this video tutorial, I show you how you can use effects in Adobe Captivate to create the effect of a baseball card flip. For example, on one side of the card you have the image of the baseball player and on the back side, you have the player’s statistics. This could also be used to simulate what recipe cards might look like or used in credit card training that teaches employees to check for the signature of a client, […]
Why? Shared actions were a new feature in Captivate 7 and were improved in Captivate 8. Nevertheless I rarely see examples of shared actions, and there is also lot of misunderstanding. Some users think they can only be reused in other projects. I did see experts claiming that they are totally useless, that it is much easier to duplicate advanced actions. I don’t agree with that opinion, about 90% of all the project I have developed do include shared actions. […]
When managing Advanced Actions in Adobe Captivate, I recommend that you open the Advanced Actions window from the drop down menu rather than from the Actions tab in the Properties of a slide or object. This way you reduce the risk of accidentally selecting a new Advanced Action in place of what was there from the start. Click on the Project dropdown menu and select Advanced Actions. Alternatively, you can press SHIFT+F9 (which doesn’t always work for me) to open […]
Introduction If you are not hosting your project on an LMS and you want a simple way to save and retrieve user data (such as high scores and names) than local storage is a good way to go. Adobe’s current documentation on Local Storage https://helpx.adobe.com/captivate/using/common-js-interface.html only focuses on storing ‘strings’ such as user names, so this tutorial also shows how to work with integers (numbers) as well. I have included a .cptx file and will be referring to it throughout this tutorial. localStorage A few […]
It’s been a while since I created complex interactions with Captivate. Now that I upgraded to Captivate 2017, I needed to refresh my memory about using Advanced Actions and custom effects. I also wanted to try out the new “While” option that was added to the Advanced Actions tool set. I’m not very good at reading through tutorial pages, so I decided to use an old project as my test case: Take an image that far exceeds the dimensions of […]
In this Adobe Captivate video tutorial, I will share with you an almost hidden feature known as Advanced Answer Option. It’s related to multiple choice single answer quiz questions but the feature isn’t found in the Quiz Properties. Instead, you can find this feature in the Properties Panel for your multiple choice answers themselves. It’s useful if you want to create unique feedback captions for each answer, but you can also assign unique actions to each answer as well. You […]
