Before you enable a custom workspace, enable Custom Workspace and restart Captivate.

workspaces

You can create a custom workspace by rearranging and resizing document windows and panels. You can save the customized workspaces and switch between them.

Some things you can do:

  • Rearrange document windows
  • Move, dock, and undock panels
  • Add and remove panels from docks
  • Resize panels
  • Collapse and expand panel icons

After you make your customizations, you can save your workspace by clicking Window > Workspace > New Workspace. Type a name for the new workspace, and click OK.

For more information on custom workspaces, see Customizing the workspace.

Missing is the mentioning that when cleaning Preferences, you lose lot of customisation and have to be prepared to set them up again. I blogged about that a while ago to explain where all custom items are stored on the system and how you can restore them after clearing Preferences:

I didn’t know that such a possibility exists. Worth trying 🙂

I spent at least one hour trying to move my windows and create a custom workspace. I expected Captivate to act like other Creative Cloud apps. My suggestion would be to have custom workspaces and panels undocking on by default.
