Can I save a Captivate color swatch to a theme or template?

We’re building a theme (and accompanying template) for our design team to use. We have about 2 dozen approved colors for designers to use when creating courses and we would like them to have access to those when they open up the theme and/or template.

Several times I have saved the theme and template (separately) with an updated color swatch via the Swatch Manager.

As long as I am in the file the color swatch works. However, if I exit Captivate and re-open, the swatch has defaulted back to the original Adobe Captivate colors. Then I have to reload the new swatch.

Does the color swatch have to be loaded every time a new project is created, or is there a way to tie it in with the theme and/or template?

Thanks!

Our approved color palette has more than 10 colors. (There are four core colors, but each one has 8+ shades we can choose from.) I was able to put them all in a swatch, but I don’t see a way to add more than 10 colors to a theme. Any suggestions?

Did you have a look at my blogs about color palette? There are 10 main colors, each of them have 5 extra shades. Moreover you can still edit colors if wanted. At least you already have 60 colors to choose from.

Just wondering: who can see the difference bectween the 84 shades since most screens do not even have correct color calibration? Bit of overkill, but that is my personal opinion.

Oh! I missed the color post. I will check it out. Thanks. And I didn’t realize each of the main colors can have five extra shades. That should address my concern.

To answer your other good question about the palette, I believe part of the reason  for so many shades is that the palette is doubling for print, since many of our deliverables are multi-channel for both web and print. Also, some colors are reserved for certain things like warning messages or highlighting. I am sure a graphic artist created the palette (which I am not–I’m a teacher and writer ) I generally only use a subset of the colors, but I wanted to make them all available in case I need them in the future.

Thanks again!

Just published another introduction to colors in Captivate, where I explain the use of Adobe Color and Adobe Capture to start with a scheme of 5 colors.

Since a couple of versions (you didn’t tell which version you use) I definitely recommend NEVER to use a template (cptl) file anymore. For design consistency a Theme is mostly sufficient, templates have some serious issues at this moment.
I blogged a couple of times about themes, here is one link:
https://elearning.adobe.com/2016/12/exploring-themes-and-templates-in-captivate/

Summary: you start a custom theme by creating a Theme Colors Palette, forget about that Swatch Manager, edit the 10 colors of the palette. Those colors are always available, that palette will be saved with your Theme, as are the other components: object styles, master slides, skin settings, Recording defaults.
Read about the Theme colors in older posts like this one:
