I’m desperately trying to find out how to make states in Adobe Captivate 2017. Every video I see shows options I don’t see in my version of Captivate. I know it’s 2017. Please help!!!!

In the Newbie UI you have to click the Object State button in the Properties panel of the item. That panel will appear in the left docking station. If you are in the expert UI you can open it as well with Window, Object States. I keep it docked or floating all the time. Adding a state or duplicating a state can be done with the right-click menu on a state. Beware: if this is an interactive object, or a D&D object, the InBuilt states will be presented first when you add a state. If you want a custom state you’ll have to choose it explicitly for those objects. When you have finished creating the states, you have to close the Object state panel to continue editing. Only way to close the panel is with the Exit Object State which is pretty far away, in the right top part of your screen. For buttons and shape buttons the State panel will already have the Normal, Rollover and Down states, but NOT the Visited state which is als InBuilt. The three first states are part of the Object style (which you can also edit in the Object Style Manager), but the Visited state is not included in the style for an unknown reason.

Hi Nadjas,

When you select an object (Text Caption, Smart Shape, etc) look at the top of the Properties panel for a section called ‘Object State’.

Click the big blue plus icon to add a state.

Clicking the Add State button opens the ‘Object States’ panel. You will use the Object States panel to add/modify the individual states of an object.

I have my ‘Filmstrip’, ‘Master Slides’, and ‘Object States’ panels located to the left of my workspace.

(I have enabled custom workspaces/panel undocking from the Preferences tab.)
