Audio not playing on one slide

I have a Captivate project where the first slide has audio to introduce the project.  Then it proceeds to the next slide where students click on various buttons to learn more about a particular topic.  There is also audio on the slides with each topic, but no audio on the slide they click on.  For some reason, the audio does not play on the first slide.  It proceeds to the next slide, then when the buttons are clicked it plays on those slides, just not the first one.  I tried removing it and putting it in again, and it still doesn’t work.  I tried removing the first slide altogether and putting the audio on the second slide where they click, and it doesn’t play.  I tried a completely different clip, and it still doesn’t play.  This is now happening to all projects I created of this type.  Is this some sort of glitch, now, in Captivate?

I’m using Captivate 9. The audio doesn’t work when I preview the project. If doesn’t work after publishing it, either. If I publish it, I’m using Chrome to view. I started rebuilding the project and the audio does seem to be working in the new rebuild, but I really don’t want to have to rebuild all of my projects where this is happening.

There mare many preview methods. If this is a non-responsive proje t the only preview method using HTML output is F11, Preview HTML in Browser.
Chrome has stopped Autoplay in a recent version, which could be the cause of your problems. Can you try to view a published version in another browser after uploading to a webserver?
Check also the exact version number, the most recent version is 9.0.2.437.

My version is 9.0.0.223. I did look at it in another browser and the audio is working, now. So, it must be a Chrome problem. That’s not good. Anyway, thanks for your help!

Pkease update, you are still using the very first release, a hotfix and two patches were released later to fix bugs.

I updated to 9.0.2.437 but the issue still exists in Chrome. Do you know if Adobe plans on fixing this issue?

This is a Chrome issue, not an Adobe issue. You’ll have to cope with the situation that AutoPlay is not allowed anymore. Turn it off in Captivate, create a nice poster image and maybe have a look at:

Alternative: never up grade to CP2017 and recommend your users to avoid Chrome.

Never mind about the mp3 and wav. It actually is converting my mp3 files into wav files. So, the problem still exists on why this first clip is not playing.

The audio file on the first slide is 121 KB, so it’s not large at all. What I don’t understand is why this just started happening. I’ve had many projects where the first slide starts with a short clip, then proceeds to the slide where students make a selection. I just noticed something, however. The audio clips that are playing are .wav files, and the one that’s not is an .mp3. I upload .mp3, so I’m not sure why the ones that are playing converted to a .wav. Could this be the problem?

You didin’t tell how big is that audio file on the first slide. It is a better idea to have a first slide without audio and without video. Reason; a lot has to be loaded on that first slide for the whole movie, audio and video are loaded only On Enter for the slides where they are needed. By adding a heavy audio clip to the first slide this becomes very tough. To make it foolproof for all bandwidths and devices, have a ‘silent’ first title slide, with a Start button. You’ll have more success in that case. As is mentioned often in the forums, leave also a small gap before and after the audio timeline (in case of slide audio) for the same reason and dot avoid that CP thinks all audio clips are part of one big project audio.
