What I should do first?

I’m new in Adobe Captivate and also have no idea how to create an eLearning and we have many ppt that need to convert to eLearning modules.

What I should do first  to create an eLearning?

Should I need to learn first the Adobe Captivate 2017?

What is the step by step basis to create an eLearning?

Now you are asking the wrong person! I never use PPT as starting point for an eLearning course, because in my mind a presentation tool is totally different. As a Captivate fan, I will use Captivate for presentations, for another reason: it is much easier later on to convert that presenter led presentation to an interactive movie for the participants. I have several examples like that here in blogs and on my personal blog.
If you need to start with a PPT, don’t use the Import PPT feature, because you’ll end up with movie slides mimicking the animations in PPT, but blocking you from adding real interactivity. I would recommend to unzip the PPT, recover all the assets (images, audio, ….) and import them in the Library of a new Captivate course. Then create a custom theme (have blog posts about them). Look at the storyboard as it exists in PPT but don’t imitate it. An eLearning course should give a lot more control to the user, more interactivity means better engagement and more efficiency. As I wrote before: try to check existing eLearning courses and decide which ones you find engaging and leading to learning results.
Captivate can be learned as tool (I am a trainer), but the quality of your courses depends in the first place on the pedagogical quality, and that is bit more complicated than for pure F2F classes. But it is great fun, and a fantastic world, eLearning.

Thanks Lieve for yor reply, I’m sorry for asking you about the ppt. I asked that because the ppt of all departments in my company will migrate / convert to eLearning and its a huge project , and I’m the only person assigned to do that, That’s why i’m so stressed for now. Because I’m a newbie in eLearning world and the Captivate. Appreciate more if you can give me an advise. Thanks a lot!

I tried to give you an advice. Let me curse for once: what a stupid decision to have one person do that kind of migration without any support and without any training. Because they believe this will save money? Stupid short-sighted. It happened several times that they contacted me to solve a bug, which I did in a minimum of time, but where they had been spent weeks on it with a whole team….
This was not meant for you but for your company. Post any question, will try to help. But you cannot expect full training from a forum.

I already told them that the migration of the ppt to eLearning is a big project. Also I’m trying to request a training in adobe captivate. Personally, I purchased the book Mastering Captivate 2017 written by Dr.Poojah and Mr. Damien. It is very helpful also your blog. Thanks for sharing Lieve.

Indeed, a personalised training which has focus on your present tasks would be the most helpful. Problem with books is that they try to treat every topic for the application, and I see a lot of bugs and lack of good practice in many books and manuals. That is no critic on this particular book, which I don’t have. Never bought a book for Captivate, but my learning workflow is bit particular. I learned Captivate only by first asking questions (few), then trying to find solutions for questions on the forums. To be honest: I have a lot of experience both pedagogical and with many software applications. I have been coaching training/classes for more than 30 different applications.

Posted a long answer on your question, but since there were some useful links (to posts in this portal), you will have to be patient because that needs moderating and can take a while. Sorry about that.

Just be patient, they will show up in the comment I posted quite a while ago, but is still waiting for approval. You can search in this portal for my posts. There is one about Skills for Newbies. But I explained a lot more in my previous comment…. too bad it takes soooooooo long. Never spammed anywhere, but that is not remembered.

Hi Lieve, I already creating a module. I add background music for only 7 seconds, but why after playing to the next slide the background music is still there? I also delete the Background music and replace a new BG Music, but the last BG Music is still there when I view it in html5. Why is that happening?

Welcome to the eLearning Community, you ask a question that is very broad! Really it is about two different things: you want to learn about good eLearning and you want to learn about an authoring tool. Choosing for Adobe Captivate as tool is a good idea, but what do you know already about eLearning? Did you ever take a course online which is using interactive eLearning assets? I would recommend to taste first as a learner? I don’t doubt you ever did see (boring) PPT presentations? That might have taught what to avoid in making presentations? eLearning is different from presentations, to me even very different (although I always use Captivate for my presentations). A presentation is something designed to visualize and emphasize the content presented by a human being. eLearning assets are mainly designed to be consumed by individual learners, without direct human contact with the trainer.

If you want to learn about Adobe Captivate you’ll find a lot of tutorials around here. Many of them are step-by-step workflow videos. They are very important when acquiring skills needed to use the tool. At least if they explain why the steps are performed, which logic is used. If you can transfer the described workflows to your projects, without getting stuck it is an excellent asset, if not….

Specifically for Captivate I wrote an article describing the 3 main core subjects to understand in this tool. This is NOT a step-by-step workflow, it is not a curriculum (which I always build based on the trainees skills and past), it is just the result of 10 years helping Captivate users:
https://elearning.adobe.com/2017/03/three-skills-acquire-captivate-newbies/

If you want to see an interactive published Captivate movie, have a look at:
http://www.lilybiri.com/published/TimelineBlog/index.html
It can be bit overwhelming, was not meant for starters, but could give you an idea about what I mean by ‘interactive movie’. My blog has many more examples embedded including games.
