The 2019 release of Adobe Captivate contained a lot of exciting new features and updates. It was a forgone conclusion in my mind that Interactive Videos would be the stand out feature. I was immediately cast back to crafting DVD menus in Adobe Encore and began to think of the promise of all the things that would now be possible in the era of Interactive Videos.

Virtual Reality and 360 media are firmly planted in the future of training. However, the possibilities created by the introduction Interactive Video not only impact the future, but can proliferate through existing media and what I’m creating now.
I’m not alone in my thinking.
Lieve Weymeis has 10 years of experience answering questions in forums and other social media. She said, “Interactive Video is without any doubt my favourite new feature in Captivate 2019.”
CaptivateTeacher.com‘s Paul Wilson said, “VR is cool, and everything but I predict that the breakthrough feature of Adobe Captivate 2019 will be the new Interactive Video feature. ”
I’ve read several posts that indicate others have taken a hard look at the feature and are figuring out where it fits into their workflows. Recently, user NYC1 asked about using the video bookmarks for navigation without relying on overlays. Lieve Weymeis swiftly conceived a use case: Interactive Video (CP2019): Navigation button.
I had been thinking of those video bookmarks and how fast I could create a menu system that hearkened back to those old DVD menus I used to make. So, I grabbed an old YouTube video and used the bookmarks and overlays to quickly construct a menu. Maybe not the ideal solution with the necessary overlay duplication, but I was able to use SmartShapes as buttons to directly link to the bookmarks without the use of Advanced Actions or JavaScript.
I’ve uploaded the source and HTML5 publish for your perusal. Comment below and let me know what you think. I can’t wait to hear what everyone is doing with this feature.

Todd thanks for the insight. I have started reusing Adobe products after using Storyline for a couple of years but I have moved rapidly from Captivate 9 to Captivate 2019 edition and just love the new features. Our customers are being introduced to new designs and they love the interactive elements that we can create for them.
I just tried using the Interactive Video feature and included some layers, just like the demo showed but I can seem to get to launch in my browser. Can you help me out or direct me to a forum where I can read and understand. I have some security limitations but our videos work in the other platforms.
Thanks,
Gilbert
Always interesting to see different solutions for the same use case (thanks for referring to my solution). Wonder which one takes more time, if you leave the ‘look’ out of it? I used one advanced action (for show/hide toggle button) which I have in my shared actions external library (no need to create the variable nor the action). The links were done using the hyperlink feature in the menu. The toughest part is to add one custom state to the toggle button. I think it depends on the number of bookmarks….
