Very much a newbie on the s/w – I have created a slide with a couple of videos embedded that run consecutively – can I create some form of script or action that automatically returns the learner to the home/menu screen when the second video has finished?

I suspect you embedded the videos as event video: that means that you do not have control over them from within Captivate, since they have their individual control panel, you cannot control them with Captivate scripts. Maybe with JS, google for it.
If you insert them as Slide video, it would be a different situation. Please tell also which version of Captivate you are using?
