Embedded .mp4 video unable to show on iPads

Hello Captivate community!

Hoping someone out there can help.  I’m working in Captivate 2019.  I have a project that has 4 small videos embedded within.  When published and loaded into our LMS it works fine in Chrome on a desktop/laptop.  However, when viewing the course on an iPAD the videos are static black rectangles and never progress.  I thought perhaps I could convert the videos to .wmv and re-embed them and see if that would work….nope.  It looks like I can’t embed a .wmv file.  I tried publishing as HTML5 only and also as a HTML5/SWF hybrid…..nope.  It was originally created in a template file and I moved it to a blank file and republished….nope.  Does anyone have any other troubleshooting ideas for me?  I feel like I’ve wasted too much time trying to figure this one out.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Amy

We’re having this issue (also the auto play button is still visible on further slides) Hs anyone had success using Firefox instead of Safari?

Would you be able to find out the following information about the video?

Codec
Data rate
Total bitrate
Frame rate

Additionally, when you say small videos are you referring to their height/width, file size, or both?

Just tested a published file from my domain, which includes an interactive video. It works on my iPad, both in Chrome, Firefox and Safari. I have a Poster image on the splash screen because of AutoPlay disabled. It has been published to Rescalable HTMl, non-responsive project. Can you please test on your iPad.  I rarely use pure video. Just want to see if this is working for you:

Custom Play/Pause button

So this proves it is possible. I coped with AutoPlay disabled as explained in:https://elearning.adobe.com/2018/03/get-rid-white-start-screen-black-button-html-output/And I mentioned already that I did publish to HTML but rescalable.

Ipad version is iOS 12.1.3

They are slide videos right now.  I’ve actually tried to also do a video demo to record the videos and then insert them as a CPVC slide, but again, worked on a desktop, but not an iPAD.

Are you on 11.0.1.266 for Captivate (sorry, was asking for that version)? Video Demo also results in slide video after publishing. No difference. I will try to test on my iPad.

Hi,

Did you check project start options, if you have selected/ticked Auto Play check box?
I had similar case and box was unchecked.

Hmm…. AutoPlay is now disabled since the second version of CP2017 for all HTML5 output.  User is working with CP2019, so checking that option is not a solution AFAIK.

I got it to play (using the autoplay option) on an iPAD with video demos inserted on Chrome, but it won’t play in Safari. Our learners have iPADs with Safari installed.  Seems like a Safari issue….any other thoughts beyond adding Chrome to thousands of iPads?

Hi Lieve, regarding the AutoPlay: this solution works for my version, so saying ‘checking that option is not a solution AFAIK’ is not right for all users and is misleading cos probably you know based on your experience that one solution is working for you,  but the another one not. The OP is using CP2019, and that version has AutoPlay totally disabled for HTML output. If you are on the first version of CP2017 you can use AutoPlay and it will work on some browsers. This thread is meant to answer the OP, and your answer was not correct due to the used version.

Apple devices have a lot of restrictions as you are probably aware of.

How did you insert the mp4: as event video or slide video?

Can you check the version number? It should be 11.0.1.266.
