I need to make sure my Captivate SCORM packages (.zip files) are HTML5 and not Flash. Is there a way to tell just by extracting the files from the Zip file and looking at those? I am not sure exactly when we switched to all HTML publishing and really hope I don’t need to republish all of our courses just to make sure Flash is eliminated.
Can I just search for .swf in the extracted folders? Would that be a good indicator?
I know someone has probably already asked this, but I couldn’t find it. Sorry if this is a duplicate and thanks for your help.

Thank you! That is exactly what I needed. I finally found some old SCORM files published just to flash. You’re right, they have a much simpler structure.
Unfortunately, most of my courses are published to both.

Too bad, in that case I hope you have still the original files? You’ll have to publish again, only to HTML5.
I do have them! I’ll be publishing for a while, but it sure beats the alternative. Thanks again.
The published output is totally different between SWF and HTML5.
If you suspect to have published to both SWF and HTML5 you should have a file ‘multiscreen.html’ in the output folder.
I’ve read recently that even if you select HTML5 option, if you tic the “backup” option, then your file will be associated to Flash. This has caused some undo stress for my current SCORM files housed within my organization’s LMS. Is there a way to create a backup that is not based on Flash?
Can you please indicate which source provided that ‘wrong’ information? The Backup file is simple a non-zipped previous version of the present cptx-file. A cptx-file is a zipped version.
This was a message from my organization’s LMS HealthStream. They indicated that there may be “content published to HTML5 with Flash back-up and content that contains Flash-based links or graphics.” However, when I tested my content in a Flash-free browser, it worked.
I never heard from any ‘Flash Backup’. Where did they find that? Captivate’s raw file, cptx can have a backup (which is the previous version) and a cache file. Both are of the same type as the cptx file. The choice to publish to SWF (Flash is an application which still exists, but is now labeled Animate) or to HTML5 is made when you publish. Backup has nothing to do with the publishing workflow. Your LMS people seem not to be aware of this at all. Not very reassuring.
Agreed! Thank you for your feedback. I felt certain I had selected all the right preferences to ensure I created an HTML5 file. They could not give specifics so it leads me to believe there were some general (inaccurate) assumptions made on their part. Thanks again for your help.
You’re welcome. Why do people ‘assume’ so much. I will rarely answer any question without having double-checked if it is correct. Too many would-be experts in the world.
