How can I repair a damaged Captivate 9 file?
Thanks,
Angelica
I have performed clear cache and Run Captivate with the option ‘Run as Administrator’. Fortunately, I am able to launch captivate 9, but unfortunately it appears as fresh captivate means no previous work in history. I had to run other utilities setup again and now in a position to restore my projects from backup file.
Here is the link. Post was written for CP8, but all is still valid for CP2019.
Don’t start by clearing the cache, whatever you do. There is a free Adobe utility called Dcache that can tell you which cache folder belongs to each project. Then you zip the db folder (located in the cache folder), change the file extension; and Wa-lah, you have a working copy of your corrupted Captivate file.
If you have cleared the cache folder, you might be out of luck. Otherwise, it works well enough. I have used it twice now, and both times it was a life saver.

Did you already do the usual tricks? I mean:
- Clear the cache, may not be if you cannot launch the application at all
- Run Captivate with the option ‘Run as Admininstrator’
- Clean the Preferences: look in the subfolder ‘utils’ under the installation folder and run the file CleanPreferences…. appropriate for your OS.
You may also have corrupt themes. Come back after trying previous workflows, if they didn’t help.
You don’t have the backup file? Are you sure the file is corrupt, not the Preferences in Captivate? If yes, create a new project of the same type, with the same resolution and using the same theme. Copy/paste the slides from the old project in small bunches to the new project, and test until you find the culprit slide. Either delete that slide and recreate it, or try to find the corrupt object(s) on that slide.
