Is there a way to autofill Edit > Preferences > Project information for all of my future courses?  I would love to not have to type this extensive information in for each course that I create.

So if I set up a custom Theme or Template then then do a Save As for each new project, then I will have the Preference > Project information and don’t have to retype it?  I hadn’t thought of that before.  Is this how to best autofill the project information without having to retype?

I was talking about exporting and importing the Preferences, not about the Theme. Maybe you misunderstood? You can do this in any project, even if it has another Theme. Please do NOT use templates (cptl) anymore, that was another possibility but templates are buggy at this moment.

I talked about the Theme because that is another way to transfer other settings like object styles and master sides, Recording defaults to any project. Not the same as Preferences.

I am unclear.  My goal is to set up in advance as as much as possible and then not have to worry about it again as I create 60 new courses which are sequential.  This includes setting up workspace, preferences, themes, and templates.  Since you tell me templates is still buggy, can I create a .cptx course and then Save As and use that as my template?

I need to figure out a workflow.  I think if I set up Preferences before creating my new Pams.cptx course, then choose Pams Workspace, then add in the theme, then Save; that is as far as you are saying I can go to create a reusable base course?  I wanted to create templates – a standard for a title page, a quiz page, etc.  But you are saying that I can’t do this?  Could you explain further about the limitations and what to watch out for please?

Right now I’m exploring the limitations of Captivate and trying to set up my base course which I will Save As to create all the rest of my courses… unless you can tell me a better way.

You are confusing a lot of things, sorry to say so.

Workspaces is for the editing environment, has no link whatsoever with any project.  . Preferences can be set globally, which means they will be used for all future projects.  You don’t need a template to set up a Title page, a quiz slide, those are set up in the them.

Moreover you can have external libraries which have much used assets and Shared actions, which can also be used to create quickly variables in any project.

When I see the concurrent tools, Captivate is by far the tool with the most reusability features.

Themes have Theme colors, all object styles, all master slides, Recording defaults and skin setup.

Make use of system variables when setting up master slides. All fields in the Project Info dialog box have an associated variable.

For themes have a look at:

What’s in a Theme

I will soon publish a new article for 11.5 because there are some changes for themes.

Lieve,  I when to http://blog.lilbiri.com and started looking at all of your blog posts.  THANKS!  Considering that I am only using Captivate 2019, not early versions, and that I am only interested in HTML5, not Flash or ActionScript, I was wondering how far back I should read in your posts?  So far I skimmed back 4 pages and still found excellent material, which I think was part of 2017.  Do you have any way to skip posts not pertaining to HTML5 and JavaScript?

I may seem weird, but I have viewers of 10 years old blogs, where they still find valid information. Not the screenshots, nor the included SWF output files, but the core of the blog, and the ‘why’ which is always in focus.

I try to update some blogs where there have been important changes.

Everything is free on my blog, have no time for curation and it would be very difficult to the forementioned reasons.  When I am hired as consultant and/or trainer I will curate for the trainees. The blog and all my answers on social mediat has cost me thousands of hours without any compensation.

You have my heartfelt THANKS!  I was thinking this morning that I may have to hire you.  But it would only be a small time since I don’t have my course up and it isn’t making money yet.  How is the best way to contact you when I have some money to hire you?  I’m going to have to integrate Captivate > Thinkific hosting > SQL database and also retrieve, and it seems you might know how to do this easily. Also, I want to create as close to a course “template” as Captivate will let me so everything looks and acts predictably and consistently throughout the courses.  Seems like you know what to avoid doing so this works as best as I can make it and looks professional.

Preferences can be exported, but you cannot choose which preferences, they will all be exported. Use File, Export, Preferences.

In any other project you can use File,Import, Preferences.

This is one out of the two main workflows to save time by reusing  setup in more projects. The other one are the Themes.
