When I click on or hover over a smart shape in my published project the font size/type changes. How can I prevent this?

If it is OK that the text has same color and attribute, and you have no custom states, you can indeed apply text to all states. But shape buttons can have custom states, where you not always want this to happen.

There is a trick: right click and select ‘apply text to all states’. It may only work for a smartshape button with text inside (at least that is where I see the option).

Check the Object State panel. You may have to edit the Rollover and/or Down states.
