Captivate 2019 Challenges with Interactive Video on IPadOS 13.2
I create very technical E-Learning Courses teaching administration fundamentals for setting up Lenel and AMAG Alarm systems.    Our training courses teach administrators at the very corporate level in companies like Kaiser and Kilroy Realty.   I also create online meditation courses.

Hi Everyone,

Anyone else having trouble running Captivate Interactive Video with Captivate 2019 on IPad OS 13.2?    It works fine on my IPhone but not my IPad.   IPad OS 13.2 is the first time IPad OS is slightly different than IPhone so maybe that is why it works on IPhone but not the IPad?     On IPad the video freezes on the 1st frame.   This Interactive Video example is simply 1 slide running a YouTube video  https://mindarrive.com/jewel2

Try it on your IPad and tell me if the video freezes on your IPad too.

Thanks,

-Steve

I am answering my own question.  Maybe others are experiencing this problem.

I found the solution on the Internet.   It is a problem with the YouTube API working with the new IPad OS 13.2 and Safari.   The YouTube video in Captivate is running on a IPad Mobile device but the IPad’s OS 13.2 defaults to Desktop Mode so the YouTube video freezes because videos on a mobile device in Safari needs the extra click to run.   To fix this go into the Safari settings on the IPad and in the Safari option “Request Desktop Website On” turn it off.   Then the IPad will act like a mobile device and come up with and ask for an extra click to start the YouTube video.    So until the YouTube API is updated this is the way to fix this.     -Steve

Understood. That is also the reason why I recommend to cope with AutoPlay turned off in Captivate since the second version of CP2017. There are a lot of workarounds with JS posted, which will work fine in most situations, but not for Apple devices.

Thanks for the feedback… as a non-Apple fan appreciate it a lot.

Have you tried viewing the interactive video for which I posted a link? It is functional on my iPad.

Hi Lieve,

Thanks for responding to my question.

My bug is specific to the new Interactive Video Functionality in Captivate 2019 of bringing in a YouTube video.   That is what is not working for me on “just” my IPad.   On IPhone it works fine.

I bring in a short YouTube video in my link below which does not work on my IPad.

Try this simple link on your IPad and let me know if it works for

Can you test this interactive video to double-check? I only have an older iPad.
