Captivate 2019 – VR – Oculus Go

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to view a captivate VR project (based on 360° vidéo) on Oculus Go headset.

I red the following post that partially indicate how to use ksweb to get that done (thanks a lot to Drew P).

https://elearning.adobe.com/discussion/2559041/

But unfortunaltly :
1) The procedure is not enough described considering my technical skills
2) I’ve not been authorized to publish my question in that thread

Because that seems to me crucial, I would like to document the way  install and use Ksweb to localy to view Captivate VR project on Oculus Go (and Oculus Quest ;o)… because Cardboards, including Gear VR 2, are now outdated.

Here is the process described by Drew P :

This can be done but does require the installation and setup of a local web server (kswes on the Oculus headset.  Below are the essential steps we took:

1.  Published VR project as web content on the PC.

2.  Transferred the web content from PC to a newly created directory on the Oculus headset.  Make sure all output content and subdirectories are copied over.

3.  Install ksweb as a local web server app on the Oculus headset and configure root site as your newly created directory with Captivate content.

4.  Type the appropriate URL for your localhost site in the Oculus Browser which includes the port number 8080 in the URL.

5.  Enjoy watching your VR project on an Oculus Go with hot spots and assessment layers present and functioning.

* We are early in our iterative testing, but at this point, we feel we can do true end to end testing.

In our own experience, step 1 and 2 are ok (using abd).
In step 3), we could install ksweb but we can’t “configure root site as your newly created directory with Captivate content”. Ksweb doesn’t appear in Oculus library and can’t be launch : when we request on localhost:8080 in Oculus browser, we get Google search results.

Someone has a idea to get that done ?

Thanks a lot,
jean

Hi,

Finally, a post form Krpano gave us the way to install ad use KSweb :
https://krpano.com/forum/wbb/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=16292

In fact, the headset does not natively see the installed APK, like a normal Android device.

So you have to follow this process :

1) Install Oculus TV from the store
2) Install kodi apk
3) Install ksweb apk
4) launch kodi and search Ksweb among the Extensions -> Android application
5) launch ksweb, in the tab “Appache”, Launch the server
6) transfer your project (folder name : captivate-project, for example) to the htdocs directory that has been created at the root of the headset files
7) Go to the browser and address: http://localhost: 8080/captivate-project

And appreciate (I hope so ;o)

PS
It works fine with an Oculus Quest too. Great perspectives …

Hey Jean,

Unfortunately, I haven’t tried KSWEB approach however I have just tried a Captivate 2019 course (run from an ext server) on the default browser on an Oculus Go and the hotspots and functionality within our sample project worked well. So hopefully you can either get KSWEB working or access to ext server 🙂
