I have created some courses to sell, and I need my customers to be able to go to the site and take the course. Do I have build a website? Or, is there a place that hosts courses under my name? If I do build a website, and I publish it, which I’ve tried, the HTML5 file shows the “localhost” term. Doesn’t that open up my computer for all to see?
I’ve heard about Moodle too. Also, some LMS platforms, like Talent LMS will allow you to use the software for free on limited basis, until you get used to it more. That’s a good place to start. Finally, if you have a website, WordPress has plug ins that allow you to host courses on your own platform.
Each eLearning authoring tool is meant to be used in collaboration with a Learning Management System (LMS). It would take care of the user management, their accounts, gradebooks etc.. Some of them are very expensive, but Moodle in its simplest version is free. Please have a look at that. It should be lot easier than build a website with its restrictions for user access.
