Listing of several issues with using this portal presently.
It is no longer possible to upload Captivate Projects since a while. I replace them by a link to a published version on my domain but not everyone has that feature. It is also not possible anymore to offer a cptx-project. Will post it in Creative Cloud and share the link.
Moreover since a couple of days I often get WordPress errors as well, inviting me to turn on debugging. It happens on all browsers. I lost already a lot of comments typed in, maybe this one as well. This is more recent than the uploading issue.
Notifications are down since a couple of days.
Something is wrong with the scores as well. My lifetime score is much lower than the score of the last year, not logically. But the whole scoring system is bit tricky:Â why is the score of a ‘like’ attributed to the liker, not to the author of what is liked, which is the normal rule in any other forum.
Portal was down for more than 24hrs. Partially fixed now, but lifetime points are still much lower than year score for me (I am helping on forums since 12 years).
It is not about making too much noise, which you seem to be expert at. It may have the reverse effect. There has been serious problems, and I respect the hard work the team has been doing.
Well that’s passive-aggressive! But, I’m no longer surprised at the negative comments that you direct to me. It only upsets me when I learn that you’ve harassed a newer Captivate user who has simply tried to contribute. Ironically I started to contribute to this thread because I was agreeing with you on your concerns. As usual you managed to turn it into a disagreement.
This reply was not at all for you, but for another user DO…Â I sincerely apologize, do not know why this comment end up in a totally different thread from the Adobe forums where I answered to that other user who did repeat the same complaint in many threads.
You probably will not believe me, although it is the truth.
It is not the place to discuss this. In the Adobe forums there many clarification has been given to the ACPs. There is a place where you can deposit blogs or videos, which is not very well visited, but you need approval of each post. Look around: is anyone else posting a link to a resource which is not an answer to a question?
You have advantages as ACP, as you are aware. I rarely get jobs linked to my activity anywhere. Today it is clear that it is not the goal of this site to help influencers find jobs.
Why do I help users? Because I learn a lot from them as well and that is my attitude. Not even any ad on my blog, which has a lot of daily views…
You can “share helpful services and products if they are of use to the original poster, but we must ensure that any costs associated with their usage are clearly stated” (copied from the ACP etiquette document). If being an ACP (or whatever you want to call it when we are on this site) had no benefit to you or me, why do it at all? I think it’s fair to let the people know we are helping that we do offer consultation or instruction if their needs are more. That’s all I’ve ever done. For example, my YouTube videos are free to watch. Yes, I get some dollars for ad revenue, but what I hope is that one or two of the thousands of folks who watch my videos might need more and consider hiring me for that assistance. When Shambu ran the community, he told me that one of the community’s goals was to help community leaders like you and me be more successful in this area. That is why they would showcase our blogs and videos; obviously, if you and I get benefits from contributing to the community, we will do it more frequently and more often.
Paul, the term ‘ACP’ is only for the Adobe forums and even there it is not meant for promotion at all. The etiquette on the Adobe forums is that you will not promote yourself, but can post links to blogs or videos you have created IF they do offer a direct answer to the questions posted by users. As ACP you are expected to answer questions whenever your expertise can help the user.
This portal started with totally different goals. It should be a repository of resources to be accessible to all users for all eLearning applications AND it should help to build a community. The last goal was never successful, have some ideas why, but will not expand on it. As I feared from the start of this portal, it became in the first place another location to ask questions (now renamed to a non-fitting word ‘discussion’). But you are correct that at the start at least some user resources were present on the home page. The home page now is simply marketing, and we have to accept that decision. Although I still find it remarkable that on a marketing page none of the products is really visible: no Captivate published project, no Interactive video…. just some passive videos probably created with a concurrent tool.
One exception: Contributors list. As Ludovic pointed out, you can be visible in that list without having contributed anything. Just post enough likes is sufficient, only your fingers will be tired.
I have invested a lot of time (and still do) in trying to help creating a community, but it was a failure. I have helped by posting tons of blogs and demo assets, but some of them cannot even be found…are lost.
I agree that the site should totally function and not throw out errors as it has been lately. but I have no doubt that the goals of the eLearning Community have changed since it’s original inception. User content, which was once showcased on the landing page very prominently is now difficult to find if you can at all. I believe the goal of this site is to promote the sales of Adobe eLearning products and services. Everything else has become secondary. There is nothing wrong with that of course. I think if you have the expectation that this site is here to make ACPs successful (as it was once communicated to me), you might need to adjust that expectation.
Do not count on that neither… not much is realized from the promises in the ‘levels’ document. I begged already several times to correct this document. Europeans are neglected. Adobe staff in Europe is only concerned about CC, not about small applications like Captivate.
It looks like a joke, but some French users found me (as consultant) by asking in the StoryLine community because they didn’t get an answer from Adobe…
Some tips for everyone:
Do not use the Reply to a comment, because that is most the origin of a WP error.
If you get a WP error, save the comment to the clipboard and insist. At a certain moment you’ll see the warning that you have posted a duplicate instead of the WP bug error. Your comment will still not appear to be accepted, but you can now refresh the browser and it mostly appears anyway….
Paul, they were separated long time before last year. Problems started to increase when the team changed. Moderation limited to 2-3 times a week is not acceptable for a site where users are waiting for answers on their questions (question was taking out, now labeled discussion which I find a cynical term). No automatic notifications for those who asked a question. That leads to the fact that more than 90% of the users never see any answer, which cannot be the goal of user support.
Maybe it would be better to move all questions directly to the Adobe forums which are moderated 24/7 .
Indeed Ludovic, not the first ‘contributor’ which has only clicked a thousand times on Like button. When notifications were working (now broken), I hear them daily coming in like a ‘mitraillette’, nothing read, only tons of clicks everywhere. I mentioned this multiple times, first time in public. The likes should lead to a score for the authors, that is the ‘law’ in all forums except here. A ‘correct’ answer should get a reward, not a comment ‘Thanks’ which is another way to get quickly in the Contributors list.
tBTW I never get a year license, need to ask for a 2 monts licnese regularly, have always been in the Legend category.

And I could add that there is someone in the top 5 contributors that has never shared anything !!… How is it possible ?… By the way, I reach the “Legend” level and didn’t receive any news from Adobe for a free year use of Captivate…
Is there a “virus” in the system ?…
😉
I agree that the scoring levels seems off since I last logged in.
Ludovic Mercier Adobe only notifies about the levels quarterly. I was really frustrated when I got the 3 months complementary level because I assumed it would be instant, but since I’d done it in February, I had to wait until they pulled it again at the end of March. If you’ve just recently hit that level, you’d receive the year starting in June.
Thanks for your answer Emily !… Too bad I live in France and United Kingdom… I would have liked to take part in a big Adobe event… as the “legendary” level promised…
Let’s hope that Captivate will become famous in Europe !… And all over the world !…
Stay safe !…
😉
