How can I add alt text to an image in Adobe Captivate? I am wondering about how to make an Adobe Captivate module accessible for people who use screen readers.

How do you indicate an image is decorative?

Click on the image. In the properties window, the name of the image is the standard alt text (usually something like “SmartShape_1”. Start by renaming that. To add more detail, especially for images requiring a sentence of description, choose the hamburger menu to the right of the field and click the dropdown that says ‘Accessibility’. Uncheck the “auto label” for those images requiring longer descriptions and fill in the “Accessibility Name” and “Accessibility description” fields.

Good luck!

From Captivate’s Help:

“If your project contains visual multimedia, provide information about the multimedia for users with visual impairment. If a name and description are given for visual elements, Adobe Captivate can send the information to the user through the screen reader. Make sure that audio in your Adobe Captivate projects does not prevent users from hearing the screen reader.”
