Big Sur (macOS 11) update for Adobe Captivate (2019 release) is here!
Hi All,
We’ve released a build that addresses issues with Adobe Captivate (2019 release) on macOS Big Sur (macOS 11).
Note: This is a certified build.
We’d like your feedback, which will help us immensely as we work on the production update, which we shall release soon.
We shall keep you posted of any development on this.
Install the build
Prerequisite: Uninstall the existing version of Captivate (2019 release).
Download the build and double-click the .dmg file. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Launch Captivate.
Does Captivate (2019 release) work on M1 chipset?
No, Captivate (2019 release) DOES NOT work on machines with M1 chipset.
We are working on this.
I’m a more occasional user of Captivate these days as it just seems like too much hassle on a Mac (M1 Pro, Monterey) – Adobe don’t seem to care about its Mac customers so why should I care about its eLearning products?
As needed to install on new machine didn’t expect to run into this again…more time wasted by Adobe -could Adobe not have just fixed it by now given age of this issue – I downloaded latest version and am told I’m up to date but here I am…
In last job I ended up purchasing Articulate & Rise for rest of my team (12) over Captivate, in my new job will be doing same even though it means some of us will toggle between machines when we need to.
I am on a Mac. (OS 11.6 Big Sur) I had this working successfully and then my license ended so I uninstalled it using the Adobe installer. Now I am trying to install again and it crashes upon startup every time. I downloaded the LS21 build, restarted my computer, installed software (did not run it), restarted my computer again, and then attempted to run it. No other apps open except Safari and Chrome. I see this once it starts up (see attachment). I close the window and then shortly after it crashes.
Hi Adobe
Have you tested Captivate on the upcoming macOS Monterey? As you would have access to the Apple developer program, I hope so. All other software by Adobe is updated quickly to work with a new macOS – it is a shame that Captivate is not, and with the release of Big Sur, I was without Captivate for several weeks.
If you have not yet tested, can you at least communicate with your customer base by email to advise of this, prior to the release of Monterey?
Dear Adobe:
You have fantastic products. Why do you treat Capivate as the red headed stepchild? Why is it not part of the Creative Cloud? Why is it so hard to work with? We are about to ditch it and use Articulate Storyline because they have built a superior interactive training product. I am on a Mac so I have to partition my hard drive to use Storyline because it’s PC only but man, take a page out of their book and make Capttvate easier to use. You have it in you,. I’ve seen it. I believe in you. Hop to it.
Sincerely,
Bethany
Hi Bethany, thanks for sharing your feedback. We’re improving our product’s user experience and features with our next update which will be out soon. You can join the discussion here on the pros and cons of not having Adobe Captivate as a part of Adobe CC.
After two failed attempts trying this build, the third time I finally got it to work. I’m running Mac OS Big Sur 11.4
My issue was the “black box” view in the editor taking over and my slides cutting off at the edge.
Here’s what I did. All the restarts may seem like overkill, but I tried this two other times with no luck
- Uninstalled Captivate from the Adobe Installers folder—> Uninstall Captivate 2019 (throwing it in the trash does not work)
- trashed and purged all previous downloads of this build.
- Restart
- Downloaded the build from the link above. (It takes about 30 mins to download I have no idea why).
- Restart
- Made sure all apps were closed.
- Installed the build. Immediately close (don’t try to launch Captivate yet)
- Restart
- Launched Captivate
- Opened a working project.
Tada! it actually opened correctly with no view issues. Finally!! Hope this helps someone who was about to give up like me.
Thanks for the tip. I am looking to upgrade to Big Sur soon, so these steps will be helpful. Once you installed Captivate on Big Sur, were you able to open/edit projects previously created in Catalina OS? It is important that I do not loose access to previously created projects. Thanks.
Hello Avranil Das
I have macOS Big Sur 11.4 and had the problematic version of Captivate installed and have just uninstalled it and applied the new build from this thread and things seem to be working fine now.
FWIW, the major issue I had in the production build was the editor area blacking out each time I tried to edit a slide. This patch .dmg seems to have resolved it.
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing this! We regret the experience you had in your erstwhile version of CP. Please write to us at elcommunity1@adobe.com if you face any issues further on, for a quick resolution.
Some of you would have encountered a 404 error while trying to download the Captivate build from the link provided. We have updated the link to the build and you should be able to download it without any issues. Please let us know if you face any problems while downloading it.
Hi Ishan Mukherjee, I have a question about the comment, “No, Captivate (2019 release) DOES NOT work on machines with M1 chipset.” Because it works brilliantly on mine, running on the Rosetta 2 emulator. Was there another release after this blog? Or do you just mean it doesn’t run natively on M1 architecture? Or am I just charmed?
You can download the build here. It was developed to fix Captivate 2019 compatibility issues with the Big Sur Mac update.
