How do I align an object (ex: rotate) along a motion path effect with Captivate? Or is there a way that After Effects can be integrated with Captivate so that I could create a motion path there and import?

Yes, I am in agreement with Lieve, captivate has some motion/animation capabilities but they are by far lacking in power and accuracy. The only way to get them to work is trial and error. I also use the freehand motion paths for creating animations and it gives me more power to align points individually as I need to get the object to go right where I need it to… but its often a guessing game as to where my path has to lie for the object to align to the other objects on the screen. Adjust and play, adjust and play, adjust and play. wash rinse repeat, till its doing what you want.

Do you use guides when creating a more complicated path?

I don’t expect Captivate to have all the features of a dedicated animation tool like Animate or After effects, similar to not expecting to have all the editting functionalities of Photoshop (for bitmap images), Illustrator (for SVGs), Audition (for Audio clips), Premiere Pro (for video clips), InDesign (for text formatting) etc…

What I would appreciate is even better collaboration with all those great tools. In this case: being able to synchronize the animation timeline with Captivate’s timeline, and being able to control the animation from within Captivate.

You know, this is my personal view, I completely respect your view.

Yup, it is playing, just checked it out. It is an illustration for a blog post about Replay and Reset slides. I did rotate the moving diver at several points, the motion path has points on each number of the gameboard.

Hmm, my answer didn’t get posted. I will try again.

Captivate is not a full-blown animation application. I would use Animate CC and get a HTML animation (OAM) as output. The problem is that, contrary to the good old SWF times, there is no way at this moment to synchronize the animation timeline and Captivate’s timeline. It can be done with an external widget from InfoSemantics (they have even two with that functionality) or perhaps with JavaScript.

All depends on the complexity of the motion path, but for simple animations I sometimes create a freehand motion paths with several points and rotate the moving object manually. I am not sure you can play this animated GIF which was created that way. I will include it.
