I would like to constrain the ability of a learner to navigate through a course, but also want them to know how much longer they have to view the slide. Is there a way to make the Playbar view only? I don’t want to clutter the menu with the slide duration.
Thank you all, sorry for the delay. I decided to just leave out the playbar altogether; the training sponsor wanted people to be able to click through the course, but only after a certain amount of time…which I accomplished with timeline limited navigation. The playbar allows the user to fast forward by dragging the little doohicky.
I think Mike is referring to the playbar at the bottom of the published Captivate project, for example when uploaded to this website. It allows the user to scrub or click(skip) through the project. Obviously you want the user to navigate the project through buttons on screen, but the bar can give an indication of how many slides might be left. Also something I’m looking in to…. there’s probably a setting to turn it off but haven’t come across anything yet.
There is no way to add this to the default playbar at all. The problem is that you would need to dive into the programming of the playbar but you don’t have the code.
That is the reason why I posted one of the blog posts which I created to offer a workaround to see the percentage of slides already viewed. Contrary to the TOC progress indicator this one will be fully functional for non-linear courses as well.
Time? Which time? The slide duration is not really a good ‘time’ indicator since most learners will spend a lot more time in the course due to the interactivities and slide pauses. Maybe something like this?

I like the percentage complete option for this. Remove the play bar altogether and add navigation on the slides if you are looking to control users simply clicking through.
Could also make the NEXT button hidden until the learners goes through all the content, as a thought.
