I am new here and new to Captivate. I created an advanced action to toggle a pause/play button. It works on the first slide. On subsequent slides, it pauses, but does not change the state of the button. Need some help troubleshooting. Thanks!
I typically create such a button on slide one and then display it for the rest of the project. This way, when it changes the state of the button, I don’t need to duplicate the advanced action for other buttons on other slides. Play / pause buttons are tricky because they can quickly get out of sync with your project. They can also allow learners to circumvent forced navigation, so I avoid them.
Thank you. I have updated my project to have buttons display for rest of project and added a hide/show action to hide on the slides where I don’t want want navigation (knowledge check). This works for a mouse user, but seems to interfere with keyboard commands. I can tab to the buttons, but nothing happens when I press enter/space bar. Any thoughts? I found a post that refers to the hide command potentially interfering with this…
Without seeing your ‘advanced action’, or knowing more about the complete set up (is that button displayed for the Rest of the Project?) it is almost impossible to help you. I have published a blog post about creating a toggle Play/Pause button. Maybe it could help you. Here is the link:

To be more specific about your problem: if the button is timed for the rest of the project (which I assumed to be the case since you talk about state change) you need to know that for such a button the option ‘Retain state when revisiting slide’ is tricky. Good practice requires an On Enter action to reset the button to its Normal state. The tutorial should explain that.
Thank you – will go back and re-watch these tutorials. I am having an issue with the keyboard navigation when I set the buttons to appear on the full project. I am attempting to show/hide them depending on where one is in the project (hide on knowledge check – show on all others – my first iteration had copies of the buttons on the “show” slide). Will keep plugging away.
