Hi Everyone! Working on converting ILTs to e-learning modules for one of my clients in the hospitality industry. The learners are mainly the front-end teams interacting and engaging with their customers, with seat time for each module of approx. 12-15 min. I need suggestions on strategies and various instructional aids that I can use to make the content more engaging and immersive. Need a helping hand here Captivate family…

Yes, I agree with gamification. I think infographics also work well for complex concepts.  The visual appeal helps tone down the complexity of the concept and makes it more digestible…

Hope you have found your answers by now. This is what has worked for me.

In such cases, situational/real-life videos are found to be very effective along with interactive questions in between. That makes the learners think and apply the concepts in real-life situations. Works well!

Videos on actual situations work well with such learners as they get to experience real-life situations. For one of my clients, we got such situations enacted and recorded by professional artists. The videos had branching scenarios and quizzes. These videos were then integrated into the modules along with interactivities like questions and surveys. It worked well!

Gamification works well for such modules. I had developed a full-fledged game for one of my clients dealing with ‘Drive-in’ delivery joint. The game emulated the actual delivery process in a timed manner. Client appreciated it and the game was found to be very effective instead of just a text-on-screen module.

Hmm… for me there is a big difference between ‘gamification’ and ‘games’. Which of both are you pointing at? I have designed several games in Captivate, but adding gamification elements to a course is much more used because it is less work intensive.

This is such a broad question, do you really expect relevant answers? I have been training several health sector developers online, working on their projcts. Just some ‘general’ tips:

  • Set up a solid custom theme, to save time: Theme fonts, Theme colors, Object Styles, Master slides. It will be a start, and based on that theme you can create variations having more or less master slides.
  • Plan using 360° images/videos and get acquainted with their possibilities and limitations.
  • If you can use videos from external resources (often available) convert them to interactive videos.
  • Really explore the features of the LMS you’ll be using, because setting up rules in the LMS is important.
  • Talk with the people who’ll use the tutorials: from the duration you mentioned they’ll not always be viewed on phones. Choose wisely whether you’ll need a responsive project or not.

I will leave it to these tips and wait for your reaction.
