Simulation projects won’t open on one computer (but work fine on another). What could be causing this?
I work in language learning, and have been striving to make Captivate (along with other Adobe products) a viable tool for language educators to create their own interactive language learning tools. The bulk of "e-learning" made with authoring tools such as Captivate seems to be training.  This is typically approached in a purely didactic manner: the learner is supposed to "learn" some piece of information. Language acquisition, on the other hand, is something different. It is not about learning facts, but rather acquiring functional skills. And this happens by way of interaction, rather than memorizing data points. In other words, the interaction itself is how humans acquire language ability. Normally this is a social process, which happens among people in "live" contexts. I want to see how well Captivate serves as an authoring tools for supporting such learning online.

I’m making software simulations, and I have (the new) Captivate installed on two computers.

One of the computers refuses to open software simulation projects. It just hangs for a few seconds, and then closes Captivate.  With the other computer I can create and open simulation projects fine. If I create a project on the second computer and bring it to the first, it refuses to open it. (However, first computer is still able to do regular Captivate projects.)

Both machines are running on Windows 11, computer up-do-date.

So what could be conflicting here?  I’ve tried running the CleanPreferencesWin.bat utility. It worked once only, but now doesn’t do anything to solve this problem.

So I know that software simulations can be done on this computer–I done them before. But now something interfering.  What could it be?

Make sure you are running 12.2, as it does have some improvements specifically for simulations.

Sims have problems in the new version, indeed.

Can you check if you have exactly the same version on both systems? Do you have the projects on the system, not on a shared drive? Even Onedrive synching causes problems which was never the case for me in older versions. Do you run Captivate as Admin?
