Apologies,

I was doing swimmingly with Captivate, but have run into some problems that I could do with some help on, particularly because I am producing quizzes in Chinese, Portuguese, German, Polish and English and although I put the translations in the preferences like so:

When the test the SCORMS (on reviewmyelearning) or the SCORMS are loaded onto Workday, we are still getting English prompts eg.

Can anyone put me wise to my error?

Thanks in advance

Mark

Hi Lieve, thanks for trying to help.

I am using Cpativate 12.2.09. I have several problems ….

  1. When I produce quizzes in Spanish and German, even though I change all of the default labels in preferences before I begin each project (which is infuriating as I have to rebuild the project from the bottom up in each language).  When the quiz is completed, they are told they have succeded or failed in ENGLISH – and I can find no way to change that as it is not in the preferences.
  2. When I set the languages in Polish, Portuguese or Chinese, it won’t even let me add a quiz slide……. I can add quiz questions in these langauges, but the default labels have to be in ENGLISH.
  3. This is proving sub optimal with my clients in those countries – do I need to be using different software to achieve full language integration?

I completely understand your frustration, because in the advisory board (until they ended it) and beta tests I have pleaded for and obtained improvements to Captivate for non-English users. Some of the Default labels in Quiz Preferences have been added to get rid of my complaints. But with this new version we are back to zero.

About Quiz Preferences, I have two important feature requests in the uservoice platform, but there are very few non-English users around so it will never get to the priority list which is based only on votes from other users. If you could have a look (possible from within Captivate):

  • Allow to export and import Preferences as was always possible in all previous versions. At least you don’t have to start from scratch in each project. I had Preferences ready in Dutch, French, German and Italian for my courses. Another reason why I keep to version 11.5.5.
  • Get all Preferences back on the same location. Now some of them have been taken out of the Preferences and are linked to the Score slide, either under Properties or under Interactions. Stupid because that would mean that even if the first request has ever be applied, you will still have to localise these from scratch.

That last request gives you also the answer to your first question. You can edit the Review messages on the Results slide. Use the Properties button. Find the Review messages, they are hidden by default (like the feedback messages on the quiz slides), click the Show button and you will see the states for the Pass and Fail situation, will be able to edit them. However taking them out and replacing by custom feedback is a lot more difficult. I explained a possible cumbersome workflow for quiz slides in this post:

I cannot explain why you have issues with Polish, Portuguese and Chinese. I can try out on my system (not Chinese) and get back.

It is necessary to get some more details from you.

First of all which exact version of Captivate do you use? You can find the full version number under Help, About Captivate. At this moment two completely different Captivate versions are around: 12 and 11. Especially 11 had many main releases as well, not only patch releases.

You inserted images, but  I cannot see them at all. I suppose you did create different projects, and in each projects you have changed the Default labels under Quiz Preferences? What do you mean by “…we are still getting English prompts”? You cannot have all languages in one project. If Workday is your LMS, it could be possible that the problem is with that LMS. To check that, try the projects in SCORM Cloud for testing.
