Dr. Allen Partridge is Director of Digital Learning Product Evangelism at Adobe, where he writes and speaks about what people need to learn once answers are free: judgment, practice, and learning together. He holds an interdisciplinary doctorate spanning art, theater, music, philosophy, and computer science, has spent more than thirty years building learning technology, and still prefers a rehearsal room to a lecture hall.

A few weeks ago I wrote that the map is free now. It’s in everyone’s pocket, and it’s right most of the time. What’s left to teach is the moment you notice the terrain disagrees.

Off the Map is a small way to practice that moment. Five customers, each with a situation and a very confident map. You make the call and say why before you find out what happened. The video walks through it; then try it yourself below.

Now take the wheel. There’s no score worth worrying about. The interesting part is noticing why you made each call.

If you design partner or customer education, borrow the pattern: commit before the reveal, explain the reasoning, compare notes with someone else afterward. It works with five scenarios or five hundred.

This is the second piece in a series on what comes after the factory model of enterprise learning, starting with partners, where the change shows up first, and working inward.
