Tape measure game created in Captivate

This game was created to have a game-like feel and make learning how to read a tape measure fun. I use it to familiarize myself with units of measure and it comes in handy when I haven’t used a tape measure in a while.

How to play

The measurement is given and you have to click the correct location on the tape measure to get the question correct. The game is separated into levels based on units of measure, starting with whole numbers. You are allowed 3 mistakes before you need to replay the game. If you get all questions correct without any errors you are presented with a high score banner and badge only available with this achievement.

This game utilizes smart shapes throughout to create the dialogue boxes, buttons and many of the user interface items. Gradients were applied to buttons and modals all from within Captivate.

The game was originally built in Captivate 8 then it was updated to Captivate 9 once released. Captivate 9 made organizing the feedback dialogues much easier when using state views. A responsive version is in the works that does not rely on clicking the tape measure increments. This version will use buttons to select from predefined options similar to a multiple choice quiz.

Nice example. Love the visuals.
I noticed that at some point it no longer recognized my incorrect clicks.

Love this – great example of how you can simulate something well and provide a great opportunity to practice a skill.
