I am just getting started with Captivate…I decided to go with it to create my Thesis Project…I am using a 27 inch iMac, 2015 model, Processor is 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5
started using Captivate…IMMEDIATELY NOTICED it is very VERY slow to respond…
I use Premiere, Photoshop, and Illustrator on this computer with complete normal speed
Yet Captivate, which does NOT seem like it would be more processor intensive than Premiere or Photoshop, instead runs extremely slow
This is a big concern…I just purchased the product at Student pricing, but that is STILL $400.00
Are there any fixes for this? I’m concerned about how my Thesis is going to go with creating eLearning with this tool.
I am a major fan of Adobe products, but this is the first time I’ve had a concern about an Adobe software
Thank you for any advice
Yes, it’s pretty darned slow. Definitely seems screen related. I’m on an older Mac Mini server with SSD and running dual monitors. It’s really a struggle to do anything involving dragging an item because items escape the grip of the mouse constantly. I’m not sure I’d want to try to do paying work in this state.
Following up on this old thread. It seems to me that the problem is that Captivate really doesn’t like being on a scaled display. I’m running two displays and the other one is native 1920 x 1200. Captivate runs just fine on that one but it’s unusable on the primary display, which is natively 2560×1440 but being run as 1920 x 1200 by the OS (because I’m using HDMI for it). I don’t think Captivate should know anything about the display, which says to me that part of the problem is the way that MacOS is scaling that display, even though it says it isn’t. I’ll bet Captivate will run just fine on a native 2560 x 1440 display.
Hello,
I had the same problem, I solved it by changing the screen resolution to 1600×1900 or less depending on the machine.
The problem seems to be in the power of the video card or in the optimization of captivate vs video cards at high resolutions.
I describe the MAC where I work:
– Mac pro (late 2013)
– 3.5 GHz 6-core Intel Xeon E5 processor
– Memory 32 GB 1866 MHz DDR3
– AMD FirePro D700 6 GB video card
– SSD
I have the same issue with a MacBook Pro 2016, 2.6GHz Intel Core i7, 16GB 2133MHz LPDDR3, Radeon Pro 450 2GB Intel HD Graphics 530 1536 MB. Mac OS Mojave v.10.14.5. I have over 200GB on my hard drive and excel all the system requirements for Captivate?
Why is it running SOOOOO SLOW???
Mayank_M The Mac OS version I am using is “Mojave Version 10.14.3”
I only have one user account as this is my personal computer, so all of these behaviors of Captivate 2019 for Mac are being seen only in the Root User Account.
I have also tried changing the Display in System Preferences to be “scaled for larger text”, since some users thought the slow behavior had to do with Retina display. BUT, that also did not fix the problem at all, same slow behavior
Hi, I could for sure also add RAM to this iMac since it is a 27 inch and so is able to have additional RAM chips added…The concern is that I am seeing programs like Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC, and other Adobe products running on my same Mac at normal speed….With Captivate, it is only CERTAIN FUNCTIONS that are slow…This leads me to believe it’s possibly some sort of BUG (?) that could be fixed with a software patch, etc? Here are examples…Just dragging the actual Captivate main window across the computer’s screen using the mouse…The window actually moves in “delayed skips”…NO OTHER software program I have does this, ever- This is probably the most peculiar slow function of the programTyping text onto any part of a Captivate project..Text is VERY SLOW to populate on screen, no matter where you are putting the text…After typing a few sentences, you will physically sit and see the letters you typed slowly populate the screen, letter by letterSelecting Text on the screen- This also is something that is very slow..trying to drag the cursor to select some text is very slow to react…I’ve had to do “tricks” to get around this issue, Example- just “quadruple” click one word of the text, and then do a “Command -A” to “select all”, just to carry out some function with the text. NOTE- The actual function I am doing with the text happens instantly (!) like, example, changing the Font…BUT, selecting the text is what’s slowDragging the screen size on Responsive Project mode- Again, the program is so slow with this function that the actual movement happens on screen a number of seconds after you’ve moved the mouse to drag the itemDragging items across a slide– Example, creating a shape and designating it in Properties as a Button..Moving that button across the screen takes a L O N G time, and the button will move in what I would call “skips and sputters”INTERESTINGLY– Not ALL of Captivate 2019 for Mac does these slow functions… OTHER functions seem rather fast……EXAMPLES OF WHAT IS NOT SLOW-Preview from This SlidePreview entire ProjectPublish as HTML5Change Theme…… I am not sure if this post is helpful in finding “patterns” on the types of activities in Captivate 2019 for Mac that are ODDLY SUPER -SLOW…I’ll try to repost this list.I am not a programmer, so I do not pretend to know if this is a programming /code issue (?) I have some beginner’s experience with HTML, ActionScript3, Javascript, etc…BUT, as an admitted non-programmer, I don’t know if this is a programming issue, but I am hesitant to blame this Mac, as it is NOT SLOW with any other Adobe feature…Even some of the more advanced functions of Photoshop, like creating 3D letters, etc, take a few seconds, but, even with this example from Photoshop– these functions that “will take a miniue or so” have SOMETHING on screen to tell you the program is “thinking” so to speak…A “Spinning wheel” nor “Hourglass” of some type, etc… I do NOT see this in Captivate…..I just see these certain SLOW items, including, as mentioned, things that are slow that don’t make sense (again, dragging the actual Captivate window across the computer screen, etc)…..ALSO- I’ve done a live call with Tech Support and they could not find a solution to this that had to do with “Cache”, etcThanks Everybody…Hope Adobe has some solution coming SOON
Moreover do not underestimate the power needed by Captivate. Since the evangelist dr. Pooja Jaisingh is using a Mac without any problem, I really think you have to look at your system. Since 8 years I always use a SSD for applications. Using a slower HDD is a bottleneck.
Always keep the drivers up to date, and Captivate as well.
