Add exit button with pop up text to simulation

I’m a relative new user of Captivate and trying to understand how to do the following:

I’ve created a software simulation and to add it to my company’s LMS I need to have an Exit button to allow users to leave the simulation before they’ve completed and when they hit the Exit button I need to have a text box appear asking them if they’re sure they want to leave the course. And within that text box, there would need to be options on returning to the course, or exiting.

This is not something I’ve learned to do yet and in searching for tutorials, I haven’t found anything that addresses this situation.

Any advice is appreciated

Lieve’s solution is the same I was going to suggest.

  1. Create a smartshape with your confirmation message that will be the pop-up.
  2. Leave space at the bottom of the smartshape and create two more smartshapes that you will use as buttons. You will need to select the “use as button checkbox” in each smartshape’s properties.
  3. Create One with the word Exit,
  4. and one with the word Cancel.
  5. Group the smartshape and buttons together and change the group object’s name to Exit_popup
  6. Then click on the eye next to the Exit_popup name in the object properties to hide the item when the slide is output. (It won’t hide it from the slide during construction but it will hide when the slide is actually playing, you can test it by previewing the next 5 slides.)
  7. Click into the group and choose the cancel button and set the action to hide and then select Exit_popup.
  8. On the Exit button choose the action “Exit”
  9. Then on your original Exit button, the one that should launch the popup – set that action to Show, and select your grouped item “Exit_popup”

Let us know if that worked!
