Creating “Help Documentation” within Captivate

Hello!

I need to create a document that displays information to help users understand a software we have here at my work. In essence I want to have something that displays an information box when you hover over an item in question. Where the information box has an explanation of what that particular item does.

I found the use of object “rollover caption” but this aspect doesn’t work in HTML which is where we were intending to do the help document. I save these as an .exe file but it plays fairly small and I can’t zoom in. I was wondering if there was a smarter/easier/more aesthetic way of creating help documentation for our software within Captivate?

Thanks,

Katy

I did this once by creating slides at the end of the course. Clicking to access the help documentation would just jump the user between their current slide and the help slide.

Second comment because inserting two links will lead to waiting time for moderation (can be days).

If you want the information to appear on mobile devices, you need indeed to replace the rollovers (BTW Rollover slidelet will NOT work in HTML output) by a click reveal event. The easiest way to do so is by using a multistate object. You find the step-by-step approach in another blog:

HTML tracker is not full correct. Hovering over a hotspot is not available in mobile devices. That explains why Rollover Caption (or Image) will not be available in responsive projects with Fluid Boxes. However if your learners use only laptop/desktop devices where Hovering is an existing event, Rollover Caption (Image) will be full functional. It is IMO a bug, a non-existing limitation.

I even created a blog about mimicking a rollover caption/image in a Fluid Boxes project:
