I am a new user and I took this course. It has some helpful tips and answered some of the questions I had. I found it to be a nice supplement to my learning journey but you will not emerge on the other side being proficient in Captivate.

You have received some solid comments from two of the most knowledgable people on this forum. As I have, I believe you can learn a lot of from these two by simply reading their comments and suggestions.

Additionally (I’ll throw out the plug),  check out Pauls YouTube page. It has a wealth of knowledge that I have learned a lot from.

Lieve (again another plug), has a great deal of info on her blog as well that can be helpful (sorry, do not have the link handy at the moment, but you can find it in any number of discussions and blog posts – search her profile).

Hopefully these help you as they have me.

This course includes exercise files for you to practice while you learn. I’ve found that if the student is sufficiently motivated, even passive video training can be effective. If you are being forced by your employer to become proficient in Adobe Captivate even the most interactive training can fail to skill up the uninitiated.

If you don’t presently have a LinkedIn account you can always sign up for a free 30-day trial. If it’s not an effective course for your preferred style of learning it will not cost you anything.  While you are in that 30-day trial you can also try out many of the other Adobe Captivate courses as well.

Difficult to estimate effectiveness of a course, because it depends on the learner’s goals, his skills before the course. For some courses your location is important as well: design and ethics, pedagogical ideas can be very different depending on your country and its culture.

Not the answer you expect. I am a very frequent visitor of LinkedIn Learning, but due to my acquired expertise in many Adobe applications, I never used any Captivate course, because of the reasons I mention in the first paragraph. For applications like Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects… I always find the course I need. That tells more about me than about the effectiveness of courses. Passive video, even when following step-by-step explanations in exercise files may help build your skills, but are IMO never sufficient. They may create a ‘foundation’ if well-structured but only exploring in your projects and committing many faults will lead to build a skill. All depends on what your best way of learning demands, and that is very individual. I learned Captivate without courses nor books, just by trying to solve problems posted by users on the Adobe forum.
