Combine several software simulations in one project
I have done several software simulations and I want to bring them together as one elearning. Copy and paste the slides into one project – (seems time consuming though)? Add links somehow into the main project to the software simulations? My first project and looking for help. What is the best way please?
In my experience, it’s easier if you group the slides first, and then select the group, copy it, and paste it in another project, instead of selecting the slides using multiple select. Once in the destination project, it’s up to you if you want to keep the group or ungroup the slides.
Forgot to post this link:
Software simulations (1): Preparation – eLearning (adobe.com)
Lot of time can be saved with a proper preparation.
Be careful: you can combine several software sims in one project, but you need to keep it running smoothly which means you need to keep the global file size in mind. You can check an estimation of the file size for the published file in the panel Project Info. It has a check button both for SWF output (now obsolete) and HTML5 output.
Since Captivate has a MDI (multi display interface) copy/paste is not at all time consuming. Open all projects. In a source project activate the filmstrip, select all slides with CTRL-A, use CTRL-C to copy them. Go to the destination project, choose the slide where you want to paste all slides from the other project and use CTRL-V. Shortcuts are for Windows.
When they are combined, you need indeed to:
- Take out the playbar, because it will be confusing, use Project, Skin Editor; do not forget to take out the borders as well or you’ll be stuck with an ugly gray border at the bottom (meant for the playbar).
- Create a dashboard slide. Have 3 buttons (whatever type you want) which navigate them to the first slide of each simulation. I would group each simulation in the Filmstrip, makes it easier.
- Since you used software sims, navigation in a simulation is already there whatever mode you have chosen.
- At the last slide of each sim, you need another custom button to jump back to the dashboard slide
Not so difficult… if you want more functionality just post your questions.
