As an instructional designer, I’m tasked with developing training programs for busy professionals who are constantly on the go. Designing efficient training programs that accommodate their hectic lifestyles and offer worthwhile learning opportunities is my current challenge. How can we make training materials that are easy to use on mobile devices, fitting users’ hectic schedules, and enabling learning while on the go?
Ever thought about turning the training content into podcasts? It’s awesome because busy professionals can listen and learn while doing other stuff. I used this approach, and it was a hit! Plus, including transcripts or summaries along with the audio gives them the option to read or refer to key information. It’s all about making learning accessible and flexible, fitting right into their hectic schedules!
Hey! By utilizing responsive design and optimizing content for mobile devices, learners can access training materials anytime, anywhere, fitting them into their busy schedules. Authoring tools like the new Adobe Captivate are very effective in creating responsive courses quickly.
You have to realize that not every topic or course can be efficiently ‘consumed’ on mobile devices. Even a tablet cannot be compared with a smartphone. Not only are those mobile devices much less powerful than desktop/laptop, which means you have to limit the course size. But the duration is also very important.
You’ll need a responsive project, to be able to have a decent output on the multitude of browser resolutions on those devices, and with the limitations imposed by responsiveness in all authoring tools.
