Hi There,

I can’t create a new blank project. I can create a new responsive project or software simulation but not blank. I also can still open existing blank projects.

I need to import several PPTs next week and create some new items, so this is really necessary. I use a Mac, I have Captivate 2019 and this issue started happening out of nowhere. When I click “New Blank Project” I get a status bar to indicate that it’s loading the assets, it gets to 12% and then status bar/box goes away and nothing happens.

Can anyone help??!?!?!?

Hi, you may want to locate your Layouts folder and rename it old_Layouts. The Layouts folder will be found in your eLearning Assets folder. After renaming, close and reopen Captivate. You should have a new Layouts folder as well as the old_Layouts folder. Check to see if you can open a blank file. This worked on my Windows Laptop. Hopefully, it will work for you!

That workflow is needed when you have corrupted the packaged Themes too much editing has happened, without saving as a custom theme. It just replaces the messed up themes by original copies from the installation folder. Exactly the same as what happens with Cleaning Preferences, which can also be corrupted. Must tell that the last happens a lot more than the one with Themes.

If you can make sure you installed captivate on your primary drive (typically c on a windows based machine) When I have had similar issues it was because I installed captivate on a secondary drive which caused unexpected issues especially with assets etc. Captivate is peculiar about that. Once installed I can assign cache locations etc on secondary drives. As Lieve has said avoid using network or external drives as locations other than backup as these can error out and you risk losing your project.

Clear the cache and Clean the Preferences, please. Did you try that?

Is everything installed on your system, including the paths to cache and CP-files? No networked drive nor external drive?
