What are eLearning Devs and IDs reading?

Greetings all. I am always looking for resources and things to learn from.  I have read some articles recommending books and unfortunately some that seem really interesting I haven’t been able to find, but I will continue to look. Thought I would pose the question here. What are some good resources that you recommend? They don’t have to specifically be direct to eLearning or Instructional Design, but they obviously can. But if there is something that relates and you feel […]

Multiple Failure messages for Drag&Drop KC slide

Intro This article is written as an answer to a question on the forums: Drag&Drop with Advanced Action For quiz slides it is possible to show different Failure messages based on the attempt number. That functionality is not available for Drag&Drop slides. As you can read in the thread, another user posted a solution using the Object actions which are executed after each drag action.  I posted some comments about the limitations of that solution. In this article the described solution is […]

Setting the order for tab nav works fine for smart shapes, but I cannot see which button is currently selected.

Software Assesment: Two failure messages (step-by-step)

Step-by-step workflow to have two different failure messages for the click boxes in a scored simulation assessment. A shape button behind the click box, a multistate shape timed for the rest of the project, an advanced action and two simple shared actions will do the trick.

Software Assessment with Two Failure Messages

Advanced action works on 1st slide, but not subsequent

I am new here and new to Captivate. I created an advanced action to toggle a pause/play button. It works on the first slide. On subsequent slides, it pauses, but does not change the state of the button. Need some help troubleshooting. Thanks!

eLearning Course: Online Safety

This is a short captivate eLearning course I developed on how to stay secure online. It puts the learner in the driver’s seat of making decisions to protect their privacy online. This is just based on information I found online based on methods I already believed so do your own research before implementing anything and be safe out there in the world wide web. You will see little videos which you will watch until a multiple choice option pops up at which point you will answer the multiple choice questions which will then send you to a separate little video that tells you whether the answer was correct or incorrect and tell you why. This project implements the captivate features of advanced answer options which creates a basic form of branching that gives different screens based on whether an answer is correct or incorrect. It also incorporates full screen video layouts with overlays of graphics and other multiple choice slides that are inserted using bookmarks.

eLearning Course: Introduction to creating art with AI

This course is meant to serve as an introduction to creating visual art with ai (artificial intelligence). Text-based prompts are written by us humans and then turned into art by a computer. In this case the ai/computer system/app we will be using is called Midjourney. This course uses branching, meaning it is kind of like a choose your own adventure deal that puts the learner in the driver’s seat and lets them choose what to add next to the text prompt to change the image and see the different variations and outcomes can be generated. In addition, this course features a custom skin design including a custom table of contents, custom information toggle button, a sound toggle button and an exit course button.

(This course is meant for desktop computers and users may experience difficulties when taking the course on a mobile device)

Personal eLearning Course on Biodiversity

This is a personal project that I have created to educate and get people curious about biodiversity, native plants, and the environment. I have been developing eLearning courses for one of my current clients, Black Ice, for about a year now but this is my first individual/personal project and serves as a good sample of some of my capabilities. I built the project to be responsive which means it should reformat itself to work effectively on all devices. I created the animated video on the fourth slide in Adobe After Effects and used a mix of my own original graphics as well as some Adobe Stock graphics to complete this project. Captivate skills and abilities showcased are the addition of closed captions, responsive design, custom animation, and an embedded web search element. Hope you enjoy!
