What are eLearning Devs and IDs reading?

Greetings all. I am always looking for resources and things to learn from.  I have read some articles recommending books and unfortunately some that seem really interesting I haven’t been able to find, but I will continue to look. Thought I would pose the question here. What are some good resources that you recommend? They don’t have to specifically be direct to eLearning or Instructional Design, but they obviously can. But if there is something that relates and you feel […]

JavaScript Book Recommendation

However, if anyone can recommend any books that were of great help to you and Captivate, let me know! Currently, I have a few in my Amazon cart but just not sure which would be good. Plan on also heading to a Barnes and Nobles this weekend and see what’s […]

Multiple Failure messages for Drag&Drop KC slide

Intro This article is written as an answer to a question on the forums: Drag&Drop with Advanced Action For quiz slides it is possible to show different Failure messages based on the attempt number. That functionality is not available for Drag&Drop slides. As you can read in the thread, another user posted a solution using the Object actions which are executed after each drag action.  I posted some comments about the limitations of that solution. In this article the described solution is […]

Should You Work for Less Than Your Normal Fee?

I recently saw an article on LinkedIn by a fellow instructional designer Ralonda Simmons. She posed the question to the community about whether we should work for free when we start in the learning and design industry. I guess I’m not surprised that organisations are doing this, but I’ve also had time to reflect on this discussion, and I thought I would share my thoughts here as well. When I was starting as a freelance elearning designer, developer, I would […]

Control Room Switcher-Virtual Reality Sample

I created this guided VR sample to test out the capabilities of Adobe Captivates 360-degree slides. It’s a blank project containing a video I downloaded online. (2019, February 28. TheTrauger:Control Room Switcher)
I tried linking the 360-degree portion of the project by uploading it under the actions tab>on success option but it wouldn’t play. As a workaround I linked it to an external URL (Amazon S3) and that seemed to do the trick.
However, upon trying to upload it into the Adobe Community I received an error messages. This concerns me because If in the future I try to duplicate this interaction for a real project it will not be accepted by the LMS.
Upon publishing I received a pop-up message with detailed instructions/advice however, I have no idea what they are talking about:

The files/projects listed below are linked to the open project. The linked files/projects may require exporting.
C:/Users/CheRae/Documents/MyAdobeCaptivateProjects/Control Room Training Sample 2.1/index.html (slide2)
This project contains links to external files or projects. After publishing, ensure that you copy all referenced files to the output folder and all referenced projects with their corresponding HRML files to the callees folder in the output folder.
Does anyone have any ideas about how to accomplish this?
What and where is the callees folder? Where is the output folder? I’m little out of my depth here.

Thanks!

Software simulation Issue

I am working on a new software simulation.  I have done over twenty of these in an older version of Captivate with no issues.  Just received a new computer with the updated version of captivate and for some reason the simulation only shows the first and last slide i do with nothing in the middle.  Tried a number of times and no luck.  Is there something that changed in the newest version?  I have two monitors and set the simulation […]

Captive 9 TOC

Hi, This is what I want the project to look like: I want the TOC to be displayed on the right when the project is first opened. I want the TOC to close after the first slide is played. I want the learner to be able to open the TOC when they want to. I want the learner to be able to navigate the TOC at any time. These are the settings I made and it is not working as […]

Hardware Shipping Procedures Drag and Drop (sample 4)

This interaction has custom states that are sequenced, preventing the user from advancing to the next slide until each state has been visited in the correct order.

(**NOTE: While I typically disable user controls during sequenced interactions in this sample, I’ve left the play bar functional for your convenience. You will need to navigate the interaction by using the arrows in the bottom right corner of the slide).

Multi State Objects. Simple as 1-2-3!

In captivate you can convert any interactive or non- interactive object to a multi-state object. The This was the first multi state object I created during the Adobe Captivate 2019 Specialist Certificate program. I have to say it’s much simpler than the multi-state objects in Captivate 8 and 9.

In this sample the image above has three states:

1. Normal
2. Correct
3. Incorrect

Hardware Shipping Procedures Drag and Drop (sample 3)

In this sample I’ve sequenced the objects to be dropped in a specific order through scripting in the advanced actions and variables menus.

Drag and Drop Hardware Shipping Procedures Knowledge Check (sample 1)

Try my combination drag and drop knowledge check with snap behavior that will reject any incorrect response.
