What are eLearning Devs and IDs reading?

Greetings all. I am always looking for resources and things to learn from.  I have read some articles recommending books and unfortunately some that seem really interesting I haven’t been able to find, but I will continue to look. Thought I would pose the question here. What are some good resources that you recommend? They don’t have to specifically be direct to eLearning or Instructional Design, but they obviously can. But if there is something that relates and you feel […]

JavaScript Book Recommendation

Hi, Can someone recommend JavaScript, HTML and CSS books for beginners that would be a best fit for Adobe Captivate? I keep researching but do not find anything in particular. However, if anyone can recommend any books that were of great help to you and Captivate, let me know! Currently, I have a few in my Amazon cart but just not sure which would be good. Plan on also heading to a Barnes and Nobles this weekend and see what’s […]

Multiple Failure messages for Drag&Drop KC slide

Intro This article is written as an answer to a question on the forums: Drag&Drop with Advanced Action For quiz slides it is possible to show different Failure messages based on the attempt number. That functionality is not available for Drag&Drop slides. As you can read in the thread, another user posted a solution using the Object actions which are executed after each drag action.  I posted some comments about the limitations of that solution. In this article the described solution is […]

Super-Easy Dynamic Successive ‘Quiz Failure Attempts’

Preamble This blog is in response to a few comments and questions I’ve seen about successive failure attempts such as “if a learner gets a question wrong on the third time I want the program to…”.  Now Captivate already has a built in quiz function that allows you to show up to three successive ‘failure messages’.  This is great if all you need it to show a message, but what if you want something more.  For example, maybe on the second […]

Cost of Training Vs. Cost of Not Training

Human resources are the drivers of organization’s business endeavors. They cause business to win new opportunities and help grow further. Eventually, they also impact negatively on business results. Smart businesses recognize this critical constituent and act to turn it in their favor. So, the important question is ‘What is that they do to achieve it?’ The answer is: ‘Workforce training is the only idea which helps them’. “Training is the most effective and efficient instrument to make an impactful change […]

Top 4 Benefits of Elearning Over Instructor-Led Training

Ever since the emergence of eLearning, there has always been a debate on the role of competent trainers in the learning and development arena. Many organizations primarily relied on these trainers and they struggled to retain them. Learners had to adapt every trainer and their training style. Due to the modern learning needs and technologies, the training is no more confined to the classroom. As a result, the role of a trainer and/or instructor-led training (ILT) went down the hill […]

Adobe Captivate – Custom Start for Mobile

Working with stakeholders can sometimes get challenging when you need to educate and set their expectations with regards to the norms that most of us take for granted. One example of this is the fact that mobile OS platforms don’t allow for the auto-playing of content on the web. Unfortunately, this includes eLearning. What this means to you and I is that when you publish an eLearning course for the web and access it via a mobile device, learners will […]

How to Animate Buttons (and lots of other cool Javascript stuff!)

Preamble Something that I noticed with Captivate’s built in effects is that you cannot (or at least it is challenging) animate buttons.  In other words, a user clicks on a button, that button animates, and at the end of the animation, it fires off a function or advanced action. There might (or might not be) ways of doing this with invisible buttons, objects, and effects but this is one method. Please note that if you are very uncomfortable using javascript, […]

Captivate 2017 is a great tool in my kit and so easy to learn!

I began using Captivate three days ago.  Yup, only three days ago, and I’ve made three responsive projects already! Captivate is so easy to learn, and the results are impressive.  Most of the features are intuitive.  A few times I was stuck, but there are plenty of great instructional videos to help you.

TEB in a fluid box positioning issue

I’m trying to position a TEB Submit button in a flow box, all appears well until I preview and it grows a bevel  and see it has moved (slightly) and it looks unprofessional. Any ideas how to address this? I’ve tried other style but get same results Thanks Chris
