What are eLearning Devs and IDs reading?

Greetings all. I am always looking for resources and things to learn from.  I have read some articles recommending books and unfortunately some that seem really interesting I haven’t been able to find, but I will continue to look. Thought I would pose the question here. What are some good resources that you recommend? They don’t have to specifically be direct to eLearning or Instructional Design, but they obviously can. But if there is something that relates and you feel […]

JavaScript Book Recommendation

Hi, Can someone recommend JavaScript, HTML and CSS books for beginners that would be a best fit for Adobe Captivate? I keep researching but do not find anything in particular. However, if anyone can recommend any books that were of great help to you and Captivate, let me know! Currently, I have a few in my Amazon cart but just not sure which would be good. Plan on also heading to a Barnes and Nobles this weekend and see what’s […]

Multiple Failure messages for Drag&Drop KC slide

Intro This article is written as an answer to a question on the forums: Drag&Drop with Advanced Action For quiz slides it is possible to show different Failure messages based on the attempt number. That functionality is not available for Drag&Drop slides. As you can read in the thread, another user posted a solution using the Object actions which are executed after each drag action.  I posted some comments about the limitations of that solution. In this article the described solution is […]

Adobe Captivate – Card Flip Effect

In this video tutorial, I show you how you can use effects in Adobe Captivate to create the effect of a baseball card flip. For example, on one side of the card you have the image of the baseball player and on the back side, you have the player’s statistics. This could also be used to simulate what recipe cards might look like or used in credit card training that teaches employees to check for the signature of a client, […]

Shared Actions in Drag&Drop

Why? Shared actions were a new feature in Captivate 7 and were improved in Captivate 8. Nevertheless I rarely see examples of shared actions, and there is also lot of misunderstanding.  Some users think they can only be reused in other projects. I did see experts claiming that they are totally useless, that it is much easier to duplicate advanced actions. I don’t agree with that opinion, about 90% of all the project I have developed do include shared actions. […]

Uploading videos and audio from other IOS devices

Currently I am working on the trial version of Adobe Captivate (Having a lot of fun just its a serious learning curve) and currently having trouble transferring videos and audio recordings from my iPhone or iPad to the program. Currently the only resolution I have is Airdropping media to the MacBook and uploading it to Captivate. However, sometimes the video and audio are slow to load or play. For context, I am working on a 2017 Macbook with 8gb of […]

Managing Advanced Actions

When managing Advanced Actions in Adobe Captivate, I recommend that you open the Advanced Actions window from the drop down menu rather than from the Actions tab in the Properties of a slide or object. This way you reduce the risk of accidentally selecting a new Advanced Action in place of what was there from the start. Click on the Project dropdown menu and select Advanced Actions. Alternatively, you can press SHIFT+F9 (which doesn’t always work for me) to open […]

Updated – Multimedia Resources For Your eLearning Projects

One of the challenges of working as a freelance instructional designer is the high expectation put upon you by your clients to deliver amazing looking eLearning for as little money as possible. I’ve also experienced this when working in an organisation also had similar expectations but no budget for stock photography, background music, or video. I wanted my eLearning to be rich in multimedia, but I didn’t want to break the rules when it came to sourcing this material. I […]
