Let us take a deep breath first! If we have overused our superlatives in describing any previous contests on this forum, we will like to take it back, and place it here, as what we have witness in these last few weeks on elearning.adobe.com/projects page was nothing short of a phenomenon. Big Sur (macOS 11) update for Adobe Captivate (2019 release) is here!
Greetings all. I am always looking for resources and things to learn from. I have read some articles recommending books and unfortunately some that seem really interesting I haven’t been able to find, but I will continue to look. Thought I would pose the question here. What are some good resources that you recommend? They don’t have to specifically be direct to eLearning or Instructional Design, but they obviously can. But if there is something that relates and you feel […]

However, if anyone can recommend any books that were of great help to you and Captivate, let me know! Currently, I have a few in my Amazon cart but just not sure which would be good. Plan on also heading to a Barnes and Nobles this weekend and see what’s […]

Intro This article is written as an answer to a question on the forums: Drag&Drop with Advanced Action For quiz slides it is possible to show different Failure messages based on the attempt number. That functionality is not available for Drag&Drop slides. As you can read in the thread, another user posted a solution using the Object actions which are executed after each drag action. I posted some comments about the limitations of that solution. In this article the described solution is […]
There’s no magic bullet but there are alternatives, plus some good advice.
Hi, all, For those who need to know how to stop audio from playing when returning to a slide, here’s an example of one way to do it.
If your computer has the capability to use more than one monitor, I highly recommend it when working in Captivate. Monitors with higher resolutions do allow you to have more working space in applications, but the extra screen real estate you get with a second, and even third, monitor can greatly improve your workflow. Taking that one step further is Captivate’s custom Workspaces and then positioning pallets on another monitor instead of solely repositioning them within the application. I’ve been […]
In this video, I show you how you can replace the default click sound for buttons with your own choice of sounds.
A viewer on my YouTube channel asked if there was a way to change the color of the text of a drag object once it was dropped onto a drop target. In this case from a darker color to a lighter shade to create the appropriate amount of contract needed. Here is my solution.
“If you don’t know where you’re going,” the Scarecrow said to Dorothy, “it doesn’t matter which road you take.” ~ The Wizard of Oz It’s not what the vision is, it’s what the vision does.” ~ Peter Senge Background In their book The Systematic Design of Instruction, Walter Dick and Lou Carey list three reasons for using a systems approach to design. First, from the very beginning it causes the designer to focus on what the learner should know […]
When I started using Captivate there were a handful of Captivate experts whose knowledge helped me get up to speed. Even back then I relied on other experts to figure out how to do various things in Captivate. Unfortunately, the resources and documentation have ranged from either non-existent to poor and incomplete. Making my YouTube video tutorials at YouTube.com/PaulWilsonLearning has been my way of paying it forward. Lately, there have been some users complaining about this shortcoming once again and […]
My personal view on the three stumbling blocks for developers starting to use Captivate: Timeline, Quiz and Themes. Each basic training should focus on them.
The visual impression of layout and typeface can be profound — something that impacts you long before the actual recognition of meaning. Like art, your impression is immediate and yet mostly unconscious. The use of custom fonts is now commonplace on the web, as a critical element of that visceral first impression. This has been primarily driven by the ability in HTML5 to load fonts from external sources as part of the page, rather than from the operating system. Google provides a […]
Overview Case studies are stories that are used as a teaching tool to show the application of a theory or concept to real situations. Dependent on the goal they are meant to fulfill, cases can be fact-driven and deductive where there is a correct answer, or they can be context driven where multiple solutions are possible. Case studies may be included within the body of the learning module, encouraging learners to notice connections between the module’s text and the example […]
