What are eLearning Devs and IDs reading?

Greetings all. I am always looking for resources and things to learn from.  I have read some articles recommending books and unfortunately some that seem really interesting I haven’t been able to find, but I will continue to look. Thought I would pose the question here. What are some good resources that you recommend? They don’t have to specifically be direct to eLearning or Instructional Design, but they obviously can. But if there is something that relates and you feel […]

However, if anyone can recommend any books that were of great help to you and Captivate, let me know! Currently, I have a few in my Amazon cart but just not sure which would be good. Plan on also heading to a Barnes and Nobles this weekend and see what’s […]

Multiple Failure messages for Drag&Drop KC slide

Intro This article is written as an answer to a question on the forums: Drag&Drop with Advanced Action For quiz slides it is possible to show different Failure messages based on the attempt number. That functionality is not available for Drag&Drop slides. As you can read in the thread, another user posted a solution using the Object actions which are executed after each drag action.  I posted some comments about the limitations of that solution. In this article the described solution is […]

Captivate 2017: Using the Customizable closed captions feature

Have you wanted to add closed captioning to your captivate projects to enhance audience reach or to provide options to users who cannot listen to audio files in some locations, but found that the placement of the captions interfered with design elements? One of the new features in Captivate 10 puts control of closed captioning in the hands of content designers by providing a customization tool set.  This short tutorial will step you through using the new feature. Go to […]

Where are you? Arizona?

If you are a Captivate pro, and living in the Southwest, can you ping me – either here or offlist at allenp (at) adobe ? In the meanwhile – if you are willing, why not sound off – in the interest of community […]

Learning Objectives Vs Learning Activities: What’s The Difference?

Learning objectives and learning activities are two crucial pieces of ammunition in the eLearning provider’s arsenal. They have a role in making lessons engaging and fruitful. Here, we explore the binary relationship of learning objectives vs learning activities by discussing the difference and understanding the importance of both. Emploring The Learning Objectives Vs Learning Activities Dichotomy  “A goal without a plan is just a wish” – Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Positive learning outcomes are the desired goal for any learning program. Pausing Timeline: Interactive Video Buttons

Intro When I posted the article about Pausing the Timeline (part of the sequence of articles about that most important panel), I promised to add some use cases to illustrate using pause and pausing points. Let us start with a  simple use case, based on a recent forum question in this thread: Interactive Video Buttons Use Case – description It is clear that the user is not aware of the difference between pausing the timeline by an interactive object (pausing point) and by […]

Rocking the Timing of My Timeline

In this video, I show you how I work the timeline to have objects show up in time with my narration.

Thoughts on Accessibility Naming and Descriptions – Best Practices

Please note: not following these doesn’t result in failing a 508/accessibility test, it just makes the learning experience less than optimum for those using screen readers Filling out the “Accessibility Name” Box: the screen reader already identifies what type of object it is automatically – so titling an image as “image: XXX” results in screen reader repetition (“Image. Image XXX.”). Unless you’re using this to call out a slide title or identify a specific, unique characteristic of the object essential […]

Common Accessibility Issues

Just wanted to put out some recurrent issues we’ve been running into and how we address them: Problem: Inaccessible screens in projects – When trying to use Inspect or other accessibility tools to check readability of objects inside a published Captivate project, the tool cannot get beyond reading the information associated with the slide level.  Current solution: This seems to be associated with publishing as a swf – either in combination (swf/html5) or swf only. We’re now only publishing as […]

Slide autoplay question

Does anyone know if Adobe is considering making the autoplay of slides a configurable option?  So that the slides don’t automatically advance as is the current default?
