What are eLearning Devs and IDs reading?

Greetings all. I am always looking for resources and things to learn from.  I have read some articles recommending books and unfortunately some that seem really interesting I haven’t been able to find, but I will continue to look. Thought I would pose the question here. What are some good resources that you recommend? They don’t have to specifically be direct to eLearning or Instructional Design, but they obviously can. But if there is something that relates and you feel […]

JavaScript Book Recommendation

Hi, Can someone recommend JavaScript, HTML and CSS books for beginners that would be a best fit for Adobe Captivate? I keep researching but do not find anything in particular. However, if anyone can recommend any books that were of great help to you and Captivate, let me know! Currently, I have a few in my Amazon cart but just not sure which would be good. Plan on also heading to a Barnes and Nobles this weekend and see what’s […]

Multiple Failure messages for Drag&Drop KC slide

Intro This article is written as an answer to a question on the forums: Drag&Drop with Advanced Action For quiz slides it is possible to show different Failure messages based on the attempt number. That functionality is not available for Drag&Drop slides. As you can read in the thread, another user posted a solution using the Object actions which are executed after each drag action.  I posted some comments about the limitations of that solution. In this article the described solution is […]

Newbie Here – Honest Question: Pros and Cons of Captivate?

Hi all, I have used Articulate products for many years and am certified with those products, but I am new to the world of Captivate. For those of you who may have knowledge of both products, I would like to get some honest takes on some of the strengths and weaknesses of Captivate in comparison. And for those who don’t have Articulate experience, tell me what really floats your boat about Captivate! I am, by no means, disparagingly asking this, […]

“Preview Next 5 in Captivate”

Recently I upgraded my Captivate version and learned that the new version no longer supports the “preview next 5 slides” feature due to flash ending. This is really interfering with my workflow-it is very inconvenient to have to wait to preview an entire project and then navigate to the one or two slides that I am working on. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

Script not duplicated and updated when a slide is copied

Hello, In Captivate, I copied a slide, all elements of the slide are copied and renamed with a new name (incremented): Image_1 –> Image_2 SmartShape_1 (button) –> SmartShape_2 But the script is not duplicated. It keeps the same name and image/shape names in the script are not updated. So, click on SmartShape_1 button or on SmartShape_2 button execute same actions and show/hide the elements of the first slide… Is there a way to automatically duplicate the script and get it […]

the “Default Text” of “Text Entry” is not initialized on “Enter script”?

Hello, I have a strange issue in Captivate. I am using a hidden “Text Entry Box” as an option on a slide, using the “Default Text” value as a variable. In a button “Execute Advanced Actions”, I checked this value and do an action if it is 0 or another action is it is 1. It works fine for the button. But if I try to do the same check in a script executed at slide startup (“On Enter” configured […]

Confessions of a Classroom Teacher – Three Things I Brought to Instructional Design

Some may say that I started a second career ten years ago when I left the high school classroom and became a corporate trainer and eventual instructional designer. For me, I think of it more like a lateral move. Ok, maybe Tom Cruise’s swinging into a window a hundred stories up in a Dubai hotel room may be a more apt mental picture, but I see my entire career arc as having always been an educator. I was born into […]

Accessible eLearning

E-learning has become increasingly popular in recent years, offering an accessible and flexible way for learners to acquire knowledge and skills. However, for e-learning to be truly effective, it must be accessible to all learners, regardless of their physical, sensory, or cognitive abilities. When creating e-learning courses, it’s important to use accessible design principles to ensure that the content can be easily accessed and understood by all learners. This includes using simple and clear language, providing alternative text for images […]
