Announcing the winners of the Adobe eLearning Design Awards powered by eLearning Industry

Let us take a deep breath first! If we have overused our superlatives in describing any previous contests on this forum, we will like to take it back, and place it here,  as what we have witness in these last few weeks on elearning.adobe.com/projects page was nothing short of a phenomenon. What are eLearning Devs and IDs reading?

Greetings all. I am always looking for resources and things to learn from.  I have read some articles recommending books and unfortunately some that seem really interesting I haven’t been able to find, but I will continue to look. Thought I would pose the question here. What are some good resources that you recommend? They don’t have to specifically be direct to eLearning or Instructional Design, but they obviously can. But if there is something that relates and you feel […]

JavaScript Book Recommendation

Hi, Can someone recommend JavaScript, HTML and CSS books for beginners that would be a best fit for Adobe Captivate? I keep researching but do not find anything in particular. However, if anyone can recommend any books that were of great help to you and Captivate, let me know! Currently, I have a few in my Amazon cart but just not sure which would be good. Plan on also heading to a Barnes and Nobles this weekend and see what’s […]

Multiple Failure messages for Drag&Drop KC slide

Intro This article is written as an answer to a question on the forums: Drag&Drop with Advanced Action For quiz slides it is possible to show different Failure messages based on the attempt number. That functionality is not available for Drag&Drop slides. As you can read in the thread, another user posted a solution using the Object actions which are executed after each drag action.  I posted some comments about the limitations of that solution. In this article the described solution is […]

The 7th Habit of Highly Effective eLearning Designers & Developers

In Stephen Covey’s book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, the seventh habit is to sharpen the saw. Sharpen the saw means spending time working on you. i.e. the carpenter needs to spend some time making sure his or her equipment is functioning properly. I submit to you that one of the best ways eLearning designers and developers can sharpen their saws is to attend the Adobe Learning Summit in Las Vegas on October 24th, 2017. Of course, this is easy when you […]

Adobe Presenter Video Express, A Cool Quick Video Tool

For major video projects, or when I need to edit videos beyond  just trimming I use Adobe Primer; however, when I needed to do just short Web cam videos or screen captures I would used other tools, mainly Techsmith’s Camtasia Studios. But the other day I downloaded Adobe Presenter Express and I was very impressed. Adobe Presenter Express is a top notch capture program, and it is fast! Creating tutorials using screen capture was easy and intuitive and the  “Change Your […]

Captivate, A Good Tool For Andragogy

I am an instructional designer and the majority of my audiences are adult learners. Because I design and create instruction for adult learners, I have adopted Malcolm Knowles’s adult learning theory of Andragogy  as an intricate part of my design style. Instruction for adults needs to focus more on process and less on the content being taught. The most useful strategies for adult learning are case studies, role playing, simulations, and self-evaluation, and a tool like Captivate is ideal for creating such […]

Using Fluid Boxes in Adobe Captivate 2017

User experience has taken a front seat in design thinking and creation. As learners detach themselves from traditional learning methods, our attention turns to the use of mobile devices for consumption by learners.   Fluid boxes in Adobe Captivate 2017 give you the ability to place content in these intelligent containers and have Adobe Captivate resize and adapt the objects for any device size, the device specific preview menu (another new addition to this release) gives you complete control over […]

Captivate 2017: A Great Tool For Adult Learning

I have been an instructional designer for 17 years, and I had used Adobe Captivate many years (and versions) ago. I have been looking to move from higher education into corporate training and one of the requirements I see most often in postings is Adobe Captivate experience, so to make sure I was up to date on Captivate, I downloaded the free trail. Adobe Captivate 2017 and its ability to create responsive content has come a long way over the […]

Create a List of All Your Slide Titles (Exporting a Table of Contents)

Earlier today, I saw this discussion: https://elearning.adobe.com/discussion/2358002/ In essence, ruthg84 needs to get a list of all the slide titles in several of her files. I responded on that thread but am showing my solution here too because I can include screen shots here. I took a quick stab at this and have created a solution that works, though it takes a couple of steps. I hope others of you may find a quicker way, but this works and doesn’t […]

Really Great eLearning Example

One of the common questions I see here and get on my YouTube channel is “where can I see some samples of good eLearning to inspire me?” Unfortunately most eLearning is someone’s intellectual property and isn’t easy to get to see. Either it’s owned by a company who developed it in-house, or paid to have it produced; or it was designed by a freelancer who isn’t about to give away their future residual income. Occasionally I run across some really […]

Non-Responsive or Responsive When It Comes To Video

I’m about to build a custom theme and some sample slides for a client and I want it to be really flexible. I know they are going to be using lots of embedded videos. Here is the question. With video in mind, should I create a non-responsive or responsive theme?

Traditional Desktop Delivery ONLY

With all the talk lately about responsive design, breakpoints, and fluid boxes, it makes me wonder how many developers out there still use Captivate solely and exclusively for creating traditional courses for a desktop only playback. I ask because that is the exact situation I find myself in with one of my clients . . . no need or desire at all for mobile courses. Are you still developing only for traditional desktop playback? CHUCK

IconLogic’s Free eLearning Development Time Calculator

by Kevin Siegel, COTP, CTT Creating eLearning these days has never been easier. However, easy does not mean instant. Unfortunately, the boss heard about how fast it can be to crank out eLearning content and asked if you can have 60 minutes of content ready to go within a week. Yikes! But seriously, how long does it take to create eLearning? A few years ago, we created a tool that helps eLearning developers determine how long it can take to develop […]
