What are eLearning Devs and IDs reading?

Greetings all. I am always looking for resources and things to learn from.  I have read some articles recommending books and unfortunately some that seem really interesting I haven’t been able to find, but I will continue to look. Thought I would pose the question here. What are some good resources that you recommend? They don’t have to specifically be direct to eLearning or Instructional Design, but they obviously can. But if there is something that relates and you feel […]

Plan on also heading to a Barnes and Nobles this weekend and see what’s […]

Multiple Failure messages for Drag&Drop KC slide

Intro This article is written as an answer to a question on the forums: Drag&Drop with Advanced Action For quiz slides it is possible to show different Failure messages based on the attempt number. That functionality is not available for Drag&Drop slides. As you can read in the thread, another user posted a solution using the Object actions which are executed after each drag action.  I posted some comments about the limitations of that solution. In this article the described solution is […]

Animations – Audio sync issue

A few of the users have observed that the animations which have some audio or flv video embedded in them, when used in Adobe Captivate, face sync issues. The embedded audio starts playing ahead of the actual timing of the animation which was leading to audio going out of sync. Worry no more, here is the solution. Our friend Srinandan, from Adobe Captivate team, has developed a widget to solve this issue. You can download the widget from here. Try […]

The published output generated in Step 6 will not have any issues while playing on the latest flash player.

Drag & Drop in Adobe Captivate

One of the most amazing things about Adobe Captivate is that ultimately anything you can do in Adobe Flash, you can do in Adobe Captivate simply by adding a widget. Captivate’s architecture makes it ideal for extending functionality via interactive Flash Widgets and at this week’s eSeminar I got a walk through from one of the folks who create custom widgets for Adobe Captivate, Rod Ward of Infosemantics. Rod crawled out of bed at an alarmingly late hour in Australia […]

eSeminar LINK: http://bit.ly/aCHm2e Part four of the popular series Making effective eLearning Modules with Adobe Captivate focused on the Multimedia Principle within Clark & Mayer’s Cognitive Theory of Multimedia eLearning. We had a huge crowd gather for the session which focused on rationale behind the multimedia principle and introduced some examples of use of the multimedia principle in Adobe Captivate Projects. As has become my habit I’m posting a link to the PDF of the presentation with the notes included […]

Adobe Captivate 5 – Enhancements in TOC Feature

Table of Contents (aka TOC) feature was introduced in Adobe Captivate 4. It was an immediate hit with Adobe Captivate users and we had gotten lot of feedback and enhancement requests for this feature. We are glad that we have been able to absorb most of it. These enhancements make TOC much more powerful, more usable and good looking. I am writing down some of the enhancements below – Go to Settings Dialog (Project -> Table of Contents -> Settings) […]

Playbars demystified

Captivate playbar swfs have a complicated structure. Though you can create a playbar from scratch, its advisable to duplicate an existing playbar FLA file and make changes in it to suit your needs. You can find the source FLA files for the canned playbars in the following location: <Adobe Captivate Installed Directory>TemplatesPlaybackFLAAS3 Height of the playbar: To change the height of the playbar, adjust the height of pbcBk_mc movie clip inside cpPlaybar symbol in Library. Also to get correct height, […]

Cp5 content with Text Animations not working with latest Flash Player version

There was an update to Flash Player on the 4th of November to version 10.1.102.64, which causes Captivate 5 SWFs with Text animations to either fail to run or show a black screen or show a white screen. We have been able to nail down the root cause for this issue. Meanwhile, couple of workarounds which can be used to overcome the issue are as follows: 1.       Remove Text animations in your project and republish the project. You can find […]

eSeminar Now Available On Demand: Making Effective Adobe Captivate eLearning Modules: Personalization Principle

LINK: http://bit.ly/cpmxDQ The focus was on the multimedia eLearning principle of personalization in this week’s eSeminar. You can watch the session using the link. I have also included an embedded copy of the demo for the personalization principle which you’ll find below. Finally, I have uploaded twin versions of the slide deck as has become my habit. The first one which you can find here, contains a downloadable PDF of the slides with the notes which mirror my audio presentation, […]

Incremental Publish in Adobe Captivate 5

Adobe Captivate 5 has a new publish engine which tries to detect the slides modified by the user and just republishes the slides changed. In this post we will try to take a deeper look at captivate’s incremental publish engine. An Adobe Captivate project consists of a number of slides. In earlier versions of Adobe Captivate modifying any slide and publishing (Preview – F4 or Preview in Browser – F12 or Publish SWF) would result in the swf data for all the […]

insert html files inline in adobe captivate courses using widgets – a start

How do you insert website url to your courses? Insert a button and associate “Open URL or file” in success action and point to the url. When user clicks the button a browser opens up the URL. But this breaks the continuity of course and many might want a better experience. Would it be better if you can open a website inside captivate course without relying on a browser window opening up. One of the challenges is inability of flash […]
