Announcing the winners of the Adobe eLearning Design Awards powered by eLearning Industry

Let us take a deep breath first! If we have overused our superlatives in describing any previous contests on this forum, we will like to take it back, and place it here,  as what we have witness in these last few weeks on elearning.adobe.com/projects page was nothing short of a phenomenon. This has also left our judges in a tizzy in scoring easily, due to the sheer professional quality of projects that all have created through the Adobe Captivate authoring […]

What are eLearning Devs and IDs reading?

Greetings all. I am always looking for resources and things to learn from.  I have read some articles recommending books and unfortunately some that seem really interesting I haven’t been able to find, but I will continue to look. Thought I would pose the question here. What are some good resources that you recommend? They don’t have to specifically be direct to eLearning or Instructional Design, but they obviously can. But if there is something that relates and you feel […]

JavaScript Book Recommendation

Hi, Can someone recommend JavaScript, HTML and CSS books for beginners that would be a best fit for Adobe Captivate? I keep researching but do not find anything in particular. However, if anyone can recommend any books that were of great help to you and Captivate, let me know! Currently, I have a few in my Amazon cart but just not sure which would be good. Plan on also heading to a Barnes and Nobles this weekend and see what’s […]

Multiple Failure messages for Drag&Drop KC slide

Intro This article is written as an answer to a question on the forums: Drag&Drop with Advanced Action For quiz slides it is possible to show different Failure messages based on the attempt number. That functionality is not available for Drag&Drop slides. As you can read in the thread, another user posted a solution using the Object actions which are executed after each drag action.  I posted some comments about the limitations of that solution. In this article the described solution is […]

Adobe Captivate (2019 release) and Live device preview

For your responsive and VR courses, you can now see exactly how your eLearning content will play out on different devices, including the VR devices. You can use the live preview feature in Adobe Captivate to generate a QR code that you can scan using a mobile device and mirror the project real-time on your device browser. Once the initial connection is done, you can keep previewing all your work across projects as long as the Adobe Captivate session is […]

Fluid Boxes – Adobe is Listening!

I predict that if in 5 years time if you are not designing responsive elearning, you will not have a competitive edge. When you look at the improvements to fluid boxes in Captivate 2019 it is clear that Adobe is preparing for that eventuality.

Multi-state slides with next button active

I have several slides where I use the multi-state click/reveal functionality to show step by step screen flow. On the last page of the multi-state, there is no next button, it is on the main slide. Thus, when the learner gets to the last step, there is no way for them to move forward (I’ve disabled that in the skin progress bar). I’m working in Captivate 9. Any thoughts on how to add a next button within the state view? […]

Captivate 2019 – New Features for Experiential Learning

As you start to work with the new features in Adobe Captivate 2019, you start to see a theme with many of the features. For me, that theme is experiential learning. Of course, some of you would argue that you cannot have experiential eLearning. eLearning isn’t close enough to real life. While we may not be able to immerse learners entirely in reality, this version of Captivate takes a few big steps toward that direction.

HTML5 presentation interrupted with “Loading…” overlay; never recovers

I’ve uploaded an HTML5 presentation to my web server, but the playback is very unreliable.  Usually the first half will play correctly, but about halfway through, the audio stops playing and a gray “Loading…” overlay appears.  The project is then effectively dead in the water with futher audio problems even on a refresh. What causes the Loading overlay?  My audio files are under 1MB in size and there’s no reasonable lag in my network connection.

Change color of a shape

Hi, I don’t understand why i can no longer modify the color of my shapes… anyone can tell me how to put this option to the properties back ? Thank you very much! Marie

Report won’t recognize 10 and 11 th choice in the quiz slide.

Creating a survey with 11 choices. somehow 10th(which is 9) and 11th(which is leveled as 10) choice in the quiz slide are shown as “undefined” in the report.

Grab your Goggles! Now you can Make VR Courses Fast with Adobe Captivate (2019 Release)

There’s a lot to love in the 2019 Release of Adobe Captivate, but the big headline has to be that the creation of 360 Virtual Reality (VR) simulations and training are supported in this release. You might think that would add a lot of complexity to the authoring tool, but nope. I actually found it takes only seconds to create VR content with the quick and easy tools Adobe has included. I’ll drill down into the examples and activities in […]

Retain State on Slide Revisit Issue

In Captivate 9, I inserted an image into a smart shape, selected Use as Button and added a Jump to Slide action. In State View, I have the standard Normal, Rollover, and Down options. The Rollover and Down options have the normal image at 50% opacity. In the Object State section of the Properties panel, I selected Retain State on Slide Revisit for the Down state.. However, when selecting the Retain State on Slide Revisit option for the Down state, the same […]

The Hottest eLearning Buzzwords for 2018 – Part 01: Honorable Mentions

Buzzwords and clichés – those are stock and trade. There’s nothing wrong with them. ~ Michael Nesmith Love them or hate them, buzzwords are a fact of life. Here one year, gone the next, they emerge from the public conversations we have in our professional lives, and the eLearning profession is no exception to the buzzword phenomenon. This article is the first of three posts that present the cold hard results of a search for the hottest buzzwords eLearning professionals […]

CPTX Files

I have created a simulation video, and it created a cptx file.  I want to insert it into my project, but when I browse for the cptx files, they are no where to be found.  If I try to paste the file path into the browse window, it says it is an invalid path.  When I go to browse my files, the cptx files are not where I saved them.  If I go directly to the file on my pc, […]
