What are eLearning Devs and IDs reading?

Greetings all. I am always looking for resources and things to learn from.  I have read some articles recommending books and unfortunately some that seem really interesting I haven’t been able to find, but I will continue to look. Thought I would pose the question here. What are some good resources that you recommend? They don’t have to specifically be direct to eLearning or Instructional Design, but they obviously can. But if there is something that relates and you feel […]

JavaScript Book Recommendation

Hi, Can someone recommend JavaScript, HTML and CSS books for beginners that would be a best fit for Adobe Captivate? I keep researching but do not find anything in particular. However, if anyone can recommend any books that were of great help to you and Captivate, let me know! Currently, I have a few in my Amazon cart but just not sure which would be good. Plan on also heading to a Barnes and Nobles this weekend and see what’s […]

Multiple Failure messages for Drag&Drop KC slide

Intro This article is written as an answer to a question on the forums: Drag&Drop with Advanced Action For quiz slides it is possible to show different Failure messages based on the attempt number. That functionality is not available for Drag&Drop slides. As you can read in the thread, another user posted a solution using the Object actions which are executed after each drag action.  I posted some comments about the limitations of that solution. In this article the described solution is […]

Black Holes, Ruffians and Storyboards

My position on storyboards for eLearning has changed quite a bit over the years. Previously, I was in the frame of mind that storyboarding was only necessary when filming. Why? Well, not to be cliché but “time is money” and if you’ve ever had to pay for studio time, a crew, or compel your busy friends and coworkers to moonlight as unpaid actors in your training video then you already know  the importance of having every aspect of the shoot […]

Points, Levels, Badges and Pipe Dreams

Hello, I’m trying to earn a free Adobe Captivate license by contributing to the community through showcasing my work. The catch is Adobe’s system won’t accept my zipped project and I’m assuming this is because I created it with the free trial and the project is set to expire in 30 days. If that’s the case it seems like this is either an oversight in the incentive program or a pipe dream. Does anyone have any information on the matter? […]

User Variables – Dynamic buttons

Workflow for creation of a button, where the label is a variable or has embedded variables which results in having the label created on runtime.

The developer’s toolbox Part Two. Storytelling

I’m no Stephen King or Isaac Asimov but as part of the creative process of developing e-learning I do enjoy creating environments (world’s would take too much time!) where the learning takes place. Not all e-learning needs a story or background so go over your information and decide if this delivery style fits the learning goals. How I create a story (four steps)  Content: ‘Content is king’ is a saying that’s apt here. I check my content for clues and […]

Captivate and the Creative Cloud

Above is a quick introduction to echo3education‘s new Office Safety Training course. The video highlights how, by combining the eLearning power of Captivate with various tools within the Creative Cloud, virtually anything is possible. Illustrator is of course a fantastic tool for creating unique and visually interesting ‘Assets’ to support your message.  We like to use two fictional characters in many of our safety courses – a bear and a girl.  The bear is the foil to the girl’s sometimes […]

Captivate 19 Scorm/LMS issue

Hello, I updated my lesson from Captivate 17 because my work would not be saved is I selected no.  When I test my work via Preview/SCORM cloud – it fails and states low internet speed which is not the case.  I even tried publishing and posting to my LMS/Absorb.  It uploads without error but when you go to preview via LMS the screen is white without data present on the screen. Can anyone tell me what the best practices are […]

Getting a Free Education in Ireland

The Time is Now – Time for Action. This article is for the members in Ireland only as I am not familiar with the options available in any other country. I do know that the UK, has a similar initiative in place, but with Brexit looming, I’m not sure what will happen if they exit the EU.  Check your local government website to see if your country has some of these facilities, certainly within the EU, there will be many […]
